Review of Tetris

Tetris (2023)
7/10
Really good buyopic
9 August 2023
Tetris may have chosen the wrong part of the story to focus on but it remains an endlessly entertaining and crowd pleasing buyopic that puts the creation and acquisition of Tetris into a wider cultural context whilst also being a really good thriller that's surprisingly good at espionage.

Taron Egerton is on top form here, giving the role 100% conviction and making sure he remains the most likeable capitalist present. Nikita Efremov is great as Alexey, a kind and gentle presence who is the best person and still gets time to shine despite not being the focus like he should've been.

Jon. S Baird's direction is great, the video game style transitions and titles are delightful even if it gets a bit much when combined with a car chase that's already pushing it. The music by Lorne Balfe is amazing, making sure that the iconic Tetris theme is present and the rest is appropriately 80s.

The soundtrack is another highlight, it is yet another film to use holding out for a hero but luckily it's one of the better implementations of it in recent memory and the other songs and just as cleverly chosen and the reasons for their inclusion are beautifully obvious.
