One of my favorite movies is Batman Begins, directed by Christopher Nolan.
Bruce Wayne learns how to be a thief. Do you think that this is for nothing?
Bruce Wayne is the richest kid in the city. He finds himself on a journey to let every step that he has been taken leading him to a tragedy. A tragedy that he can not forget and he can not move on.
And he finds himself letting go of that identity - and making him move forward towards that tragedy. So his mind is always in a cycle of healing - that in a scene he understands why he is stealing from his own company - is a way to move away from that experience.
He understood the consequences but he did it anyway. He knew that he would perhaps get arrested, and then someone let him go.
