Rhubarb Vaseline (Stan Laurel) comes from a small village. He enters a contest to be a bullfighter. This is Laurel before Hardy. He is spoofing matinee idol Rudolph Valentino. He certainly reminds me of Buster Keaton. I'm sure that's who he's shooting for when he's doing the stunts. There is one scene which almost kills him. This has to be the earliest that I've seen him. The print is not the greatest and I have trouble seeing the details of his facial expressions at the longer distances. Also it's too dark and the black tends to melt together. Maybe they'll do some restoration. Otherwise, I like it.
