I went into the theaters to see this movie without any expectations, and barely any knowledge about the plot. Never had I been more happy having carried tissues with me. Also, watching this movie in 3D was not only a blessing because of the spectacular animations and colors, but also to "hide" those sneaky tears with the glasses. While watching the first time, I was confused as to what was happening. It reminded me a little bit of Spirited Away, with a little girl landing in a place she should'nt be, having to "earn" being there, but with the goal to getting back to her parents/mom. I was confused about the huge amount of colors, splashing animations, funny-weird dialogues/emotions. Spoiler ahead: At the end, when it gets revealed that this all was happening in her fantasy after the jump into the ocean, I could barely hold it together anymore. Before that I was more angry at the family for treating her that way, also at how Nanhe treated her.. But after having seen the ending, and then also watching the movie a second time, it was such an emotional rollercoaster when I realized all the connections between the "real world" and her fantasized dreams... I love the movie not only for the beautiful visuals but also for giving me those emotions. 10/10.
