Weekend (1967)

Oh my Godard!

What did I watch?

This film is more West Bank than Left Bank. It certainly didn't make me want to visit France.

The film starts out with a boring, overlong and vulgar sexual admission. From then on it is one car wreck and violent encounter after another.

The film is mean spirited and graphic for today let alone by 1967 standards. Godard is clearly bitter and angry with the world.

There is no payoff in this film. There is no explanation for this mess. There is no reconciliation or purpose. The film makes no moral or social statement. It is clear Godard wanted to offend at least four of his audiences' senses. He succeeded.
