Good start, great middle, poor ending

Warning: Spoilers
The story started solid even though of course a lot of it is almost comically overused. The lone wolf, badass swordmaster travelling the country to seek revenge... Ah well, it had just enough of a twist to work, and it looked pretty.

The story picks up after a while and the fight scenes are generally stylish and well done. But after episode 5 which is a well done mix of background story telling flashbacks and a long lasting battle in the main storyline the writing unfortunately can't keep the quality up.

The badass swordmaster who took out an army all by herself suddenly gets her butt kicked by a chubby white dude who was locked inside his tower for years. A senior and a princess holding down the gates against an entire army. Muskets that can't miss or need reloading. The same white guy who knew nothing about the protagonist until now all of a sudden has all the details to her backstory and loses the final battle, well how exactly?

I even felt that the visuals in the last episode were suddenly a lot less nice. I think the open areas in daylight were not the best choice, i felt the visuals work best with some cinematic lighting (sunset battle against the claws, candle lights in most indoor scenes etc.).

It seemed like the ending was only supposed to be setting up season 2, but it didnt do it through a dramatic turn or cliff hanger, it did it by not providing closure.
