Henry (Sean Penn) and Nicky (Nicolas Cage) are drafted into US Marines in the 1940s. Henry falls in love with Caddie, a love at first sight for him and he assumes her to be one of the Gatsby girl. The film however focuses on their lives in those six weeks until Henry and Nicky have to get on board the train to serve overseas. From Henry and Caddie's meet cute love story to the challenges they face in their relationship as well as Henry and Nicky. How they learn to stick together forms rest of the story.
It is indeed a very well made coming of age story about two friends, about to join the war. Scared of the war and having the leave the life behind. Young Sean Penn and even younger Nicolas Cage, play their respective characters well. The story is more character driven here and be it the cute love story or having to go through a tougher phase helping out the friend, Sean Penn delivers it perfectly as Henry and is also firmly supported by others. Overall, I would definitely recommend this for a decent watch.
