The Shift (II) (2023)

Warning: Spoilers
I tried hard to like this movie, but it was so disjointed and jumbled. I got the Job connection right away, and that might have been a compelling enough movie. But then they rolled that plot into a Spider-Man multiverse and they lost me.

It was basically the same plot as "Everything, Everywhere, All at Once" without the Kung Fu.

I was also disappointed in the supporting characters. It isn't human nature for everyone to be so downtrodden and colorless, even through hardship. People find pleasure in each other and their children, they make art, they sing, they dance. Even in the worst conditions, people find ways to experience beauty. There was one scene, where the main character came across a couple dancing. But everyone else in the movie appeared to be begging for food, all the time. And why is it always dark and rainy? With so much rain, you'd expect everything would be lush and green. The supporting characters in this movie were so two-dimensional. Only a grey backdrop to the story.

We didn't make it to the end of the movie. But, it didn't seem to be getting better and I had more compelling things to occupy my time with.
