Review of Jason X

Jason X (2001)
3/10
My favorite terrible movie

Warning: Spoilers
I first saw this when it first came out on video. I was long past paying to see slasher sequels in the theater, especially since by this time Friday the 13th franchise was well past its prime. This was no exception. The screenplay was pretty awful. The idea of sending Jason into space and 450 years in the future was just absurd. This movie's saving grace, however, was mostly its more ridiculous moments. Jason's accidental upgrade after he was supposedly killed (again) was so outlandish that it was one of my favorite "so bad it's good" moments, as was his killing the holographic teenage girls in their sleeping bags. That scene actually seemed to embrace its outlandishness. Similarly, the upgraded Jason fighting the new and improved Kay Em that again relishes it's own outrageousness. Another plus is Kane Hodder's performance. He is so physically imposing as Jason that this is another reason that I can actually enjoy this awful film. Truly a guilty pleasure.
