Spain left an unexpected surprise with this film not only for its production quality, but also for having achieved enough fame that in just a short time it had three recreations made by Germany, South Korea and the USA. This film is a thriller that plays in favor of the desperation that Julio goes through. It doesn't take the trouble to introduce the characters, since a few minutes into the movie, it gets straight to the point. The plot is intriguing and full of tension. The performances are somewhat exaggerated, but the desperation of Julio and his children is well captured. Everything even becomes more tense when the youngest son's life is at risk. The chase scenes are well executed and it is a good thing, since it is not something you see a lot in Spanish cinema. The quality of the production and photography are certainly worthy of a Hollywood film. El Desconocido is a shocking film that you cannot take your eyes off until you know what happens in the end with the protagonists. Another interesting film from Spanish cinema. My final rating for this movie is a 9/10.
