Busses Roar (1942)
6/10
Sabotage in oddest places.
15 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A group of oddball characters populate a bus going from San Diego and San Francisco, delayed by a supposed blackout, but there's also the possibility of spy activity aboard, especially when the bus is abducted with foreigners with heavy accents jumping aboard and taking off with it. A great ensemble of Warner Brothers contract players fill out the cast which includes hysterically two one time silent movie pinup girls (Lottie Williams and Leah Baird) as gossipy old spinsters, complaining about everything that the young folk are doing.

The young folk include Richard Travis as Army Sergeant Ryan, Julie Bishop as a young woman who was jilted by a mail order groom, Eleanor Parker as the station clerk and Elisabeth Fraser as an innocent young lady, and they're supported by Willie Best as the baggage clerk, Harry C. Bradley as a henpecked old man, Vera Lewis as his harpy wife and Charles Drake, mixing in comedy, action and romance, all in under an hour. The surprise is in who saves the day, a delightful twist.
