Wish (II) (2023)

Warning: Spoilers
I had seen so many advertisements and tons of merchandise for this movie over the past several months... an annoying amount. I saw that it had dropped on Disney+, so I figured why not give it a watch? First impression: It started off somewhat slow, and the first song is easily forgettable. Asha seems like such a genuine character, looking out for her family, her friends, and her community. She looked up to the king who seemed to be a pretty cool and powerful dude, and interviewed to be his apprentice- one of the most prestigious roles in the kingdom. It's her grandfather's 100th birthday and there is a wish-granting ceremony. Surely it's his turn, right? Everything is not as it seems. Upon closer inspection, the king's intentions are less than pure and Asha decides it wouldn't be right to work for him. She sings about it and summons a wishing star from the sky. This song is catchy- better than the others. This star thing makes everything weird. Now the goat is talking- all of the animals and plants are singing and dancing. The star itself doesn't talk, of course. Everyone else in the town is still blissfully unaware that their beloved king is an actual garbage human. He sings about how great he is (who is he trying to convince?). Asha let's everyone know what she knows, then they all sing about "what they know now", including, plot twist- his loyal wife. They all turn on him, and live happily ever after. This film was packed with Disney Easter eggs, which I found myself searching for them after noticing the first few. Also, I think the message is great. It's okay to change your mind about something once you get more information. Stand up for what is right. Overall, I didn't hate it. Worth a watch!
