Cliff-Hanging Escapes in this Myth
7 April 2024
"White Fang" was a nostalgic throwback to the Walt Disney live-action animal adventure (see "Nikki, Wild Dog of the North," "The Legend of Lobo"). 'Fang 2' continues the boy-and-his-pet-wolf love story. Scott Bairstow replaces Ethan Hawke as the boy-hero. He has pretty much the same style and appeal of his predecessor. On a mission to protect the gold claim and bank the winnings, the new kid and White Fang get water-logged by the raging river rapids. They are rescued by an Alaskan Indian princess and brought to her people, as shades of "Dances with Wolves" dance in our heads. A chaste romance develops between white boy and dark beauty. Even Fang finds an all-white female wolf to pursue. The good folks are pitted against the bad gold diggers as arrow and gun battles are staged, sure to please pre-teens and teens-at-heart.
