An incredibly fun indie creature feature
20 April 2024
Living in a small community, a discovery involving a strange glowing orb in the area brings a group of residents into the woods to look for it, but when a band of bank-robbers use the area for a hideout find that the meteorite has spawned a vicious beast to hunt and kill those in the area.

This was a pretty fun if somewhat flawed indie creature feature. One of the bright spots here is the strong setup that provides this type of feature with the kind of worthwhile starting points possible. The early work involving the family living on the edges of the swamp and the different residents who are caught up in the concurrent robbery that was also featured at the same time as the meteorite landing gives this a solid starting point to bring the personalities together at a single location. With that also providing the needed build-up to understand who the family members, the residents, and the chasing agents who are looking for the robbers before bringing them into the area with the creature, the setup here is decent enough for this type of genre effort. This allows the film ample opportunity to have plenty of cheesy genre action usually found in this type of feature. Mainly focused around the chase for the robbers, this provides some exciting and quite fun shootouts here as they not only take hostages but battle the agents chasing after them which is silly enough for what this type of film is. Other scenes focus on the creature running wild in the woods to take out the various robbers and others it stumbles upon which have a typically fun series of cheesy, low-budget indie-style kills to showcase the appropriately silly effects featured here alongside the equally-silly costume for the creature which blends an intriguing design with the surroundings rather well to give this one an enjoyable series of positives. There isn't much to dislike here as this pretty much has just the one lone issue with it. This one is pretty much let down only by that one factor involving the obviously apparent low budget throughout here which never shies away from its roots the entire time here. From the constant mentions of CGI for the gunplay, the weekend-warrior nature of the setting and the overall production value of the whole thing that's quite cheap and goofy to the point of not being able to get past it for some out there. The type of digital filter running throughout here might also be another big issue for some here which is where the other big detriment will come from as the look of this one could throw people off before anything else that occurs here which are the main detriments to this one.
