This movie has nothing from the film noirs of the early 40's or 50's

(1990) After Dark, My Sweet CRIME DRAMA

Adapted from the novel by Jim Thompson co-written and directed by James Foley that has drifter, Collie (Jason Patric) hitch hiking through the desert highway only to stop by for a beer. A woman then comes in and as a result of Collie clashing with the owner of the bar/ diner worker or owner, he then knocks him out by smacking him before he walks. And while going on his way, the woman from the diner then follows him with her car and tries to convince him to get in, and when he does she introduces herself as Fay (Rachel Ward) and takes him to live with her into her home. And down the line as we hear Collie narrating, we then find out that he used to be a former boxer, and it is not long before she introduces him to Uncle Bud (Bruce Dern). And is then he tries to go along with a kidnapping scheme in exchange for money.

I must admit the first time I saw this I was kind of hoping i get to see Rachel Ward naked for once, after seeing her heat up the screen in Against All Odds, but was quite disappointed the only nudity there was was the Jason Patric character. Some of the actual mistakes is that it looked like it was supposed to be film noir, but as one were to continue watching it, it lacked suspense or tension it could have created. The black and white film noirs that escalated from the early 1940's and 1950's are way more involving then the characters here.
