One of the hardest things about watching “The Man in the High Castle” is the swastikas. Worn casually as pins, strapped proudly to armbands, tastefully scattered around a seemingly ordinary American home — you see them everywhere. Turns out, it’s also one of the hardest parts of filming the show, as well.

“It’s jarring iconography, for sure,” D.J. Qualls told IndieWire during a recent press day for Season 2 of the Amazon series, which imagines what might have happened if the Axis powers, not the Allies, had won World War II. “When we shot the pilot, we were in Seattle and that was a day we had like 150 people in period costumes and Nazi uniforms walking around. And even though people could see that there were cameras around and trailers...

Philip K. Dick’s writing has been adapted to the screen on multiple occasions, including Ridley Scott’s “Blade Runner,” Steven Spielberg’s “Minority Report” and most recently, the Amazon original series “The Man in the High Castle.” The series explores an alternative history of the world in which the Axis powers won World War II and the resistance that springs up to bring them down. The complete first season premiered last November and received mostly positive reviews. Now, the second season will premiere in just a few short weeks. Our future belongs to those who change it. At least, that’s the core message underpinning the new trailer for The Man in the High Castle season 2, which is earmarked for a premiere on December 16.
Continuing to explore an alternate reality in which the Allies lost World War II, this latest teaser retraces the battle lines that have divided the United States between the Japanese Pacific States west of the Rockies and the Nazi puppet state. Between them lies a relatively peaceful gulf said to be home of The Man in the High Castle himself, but will season 2 offer a glimpse of this most mysterious figure? We’ll find out very soon indeed.
Based on Philip K. Dick’s 1962 alternate history novel, The Man in the High Castle season 2 experienced some creative turbulence during development. Six months ago, the departure of showrunner Frank Spotnitz forced production on a temporary hiatus,...

Amazon’s Emmy Award-winning drama “The Man in the High Castle” envisions a world where the United States lost WWII, and Japan and Germany rule the country. Ahead of its Season 2 premiere, the streaming service released the first two minutes of the new episode, which shows student life in Nazi-ruled America.
The clip begins with Thomas (Quinn Lord), son of John Smith (Rufus Sewell) arriving to school. All seems normal as he walks through the hallways, enters his classroom, helps a buddy with a detail in early American history, and is then chosen to lead the Pledge of Allegiance.
“I swear I will observe the law, conscientiously fulfill my duties at home and school, be faithful and obedient, and pledge absolute allegiance until death to the leader of the Nazi Empire, Adolf Hitler,” the students recite.

Amazon is bringing "The Man in the High Castle" back for a second season. The streaming service renewed the dystopian drama, based on Philip K. Dick's novel, set in an alternate history in which the United States lost World War II.
The series takes place 20 years after the conclusion of the war, with America's East Coast controlled by Nazis and the West Coast ruled by Japan. San Francisco resident Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos) is caught up in the resistance movement when she comes into possession of a film that shows what the world would've been like had the U.S. won the war. Along the way, she meets Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank), a Nazi agent posing as a resistance fighter, who reports on their dealings to his commander (Rufus Sewell).
The first season ended on an intriguing note with — Spoiler Alert — Juliana's boss, the Japanese trade minister Tagomi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa...

Conrad Veidt is Turner Classic Movies' "Summer Under the Stars" performer of the day. An international star since the 1920s, Veidt worked in Germany, the United Kingdom, and Hollywood — twice. [Conrad Veidt Movie Schedule.] In the late '20s, Veidt was the star of unusual Hollywood fare such as Paul Leni's The Man Who Laughs (1928), in the title role as a man with a grin-like scar where his mouth should be, and Paul Fejos' The Last Performance (1929), as a magician in love with pretty Mary Philbin — a Universal star who also happened to be Veidt's leading lady in The Man Who Laughs. With the arrival of talking pictures, Veidt returned to Germany, but with the ascent of the Nazis he fled first to England and later to the United States. In the Hollywood of the early '40s, Veidt became everybody's favorite Nazi in movies such as Nazi Agent, Escape, and Casablanca.

Inglourious Basterds London Press Conference – Quentin Tarantino, Diane Kruger, Christoph Waltz, Lawrence Bender (Spoilers Ahead)
Inglourious Basterds is the sixth film from Quentin Tarantino (counting Kill Bill as one), and he’s been talking about it since the mid-90s. His World War II picture is an ensemble piece told in five chapters, with a style of knowing comedy and over-the-top violence that bares more comparison to Kill Bill than his earlier work. There are many characters, and many plot strands, but the Basterds of the title are a group of fearless Jewish-Americans (led by Brad Pitt and including Eli Roth, Til Schweiger and Bj Novak from The American Office) who are busy scalping and gouging their way through Nazi troops toward the end of the war. Other key figures include Christoph Waltz, an Austrian actor best known until now for his roles in German television, who steals the show...
