A proper version of the novel by Olha Kobilianskaya. A villlage in Bukovina unde the Austro - Hungarian domination. The stories of few families. The main - Maria and Ivonika and their sons : Mikhailo and Sava. The love of each of them, for a poor servant of boyar court and for his cousin, daughter of the sister of his mother.

The tough regime in ong term army, the wedding of young Parasenka, the thirst of Sava for land and the malefic effect of Rachila, the tender love between Maikhailo and Ana are well reflected, the costumes, the dialogue, the acting being more than inspired .

Like the cinematographz.

No doubts, far to be perfect but useful remains to see it in the context of period.
