Singer-songwriter Katy Perry escaped an embarrassing moment by a whisker on the ‘American Idol’. During the episode, her top broke in the middle of judging a contestant.
The wardrobe malfunction happened just before Top 14 hopeful Roman Collins performed ‘It’s A Man’s Man’s Man’s World’ by James Brown, reports People magazine.
At that moment Perry’s silver sculptural crop top by Kate Barton, appeared to come loose at the back.
As per People, in a behind-the-scenes video posted by Perry on Instagram after the show, the singer was seen being tended to by a group of crew members as they tried to fix her top while she remained sitting at the judging panel.
“My top broke #idol,” Perry explained in the caption.
“I need my top to stay on”, the ‘Daisies’ singer said in the clip, before giving a concerned look at the camera. “If it’s not fixed,...

We feel like we’re on cloud nine listening to this Kellyoke cover.
On her talk show’s musical segment this week, Kelly Clarkson performed a piano-backed rendition of Katy Perry’s hit, “Wide Awake.”
Accompanied by Musical Director Jason Halbert, the singer slowed down the Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection ballad and performed the Perry favorite acoustically, showing off her stellar vocal range.
This isn’t the first time that Clarkson paid homage to Perry. Just last year, the musician sang a version of another Teenage Dream classic, “The One That Got Away,...

The film is an adaptation of Vera Chitylova’s 1966 Czech New Wave comedy Daisies.
Paris-based MK2 Films, whose slate includes Cannes Palme d’Or winner Anatomy of a Fall and Cannes Un Certain Regard winner How to Have Sex, is handling international sales and discussed the project with buyers at last week’s AFM. The film will start production early next year in Hong Kong.

Where has the time gone? Summer’s on the fritz and Criterion have Thanksgiving in their sights: November’s lineup is here, boasting a 4K upgrade of In the Mood for Love—sourced from the recent restoration; Ymmv—and 2,160-pixel debut for The Power of the Dog and Malcolm X. ’90s Spike Lee in that setting might be more than the eye can handle.
Cause for celebration, but no less major is the Infernal Affairs trilogy getting a duly packed set—further signal of Criterion embracing Hong Kong cinema, as good a development as any in recent years. Soon after Daisies‘ theatrical re-release we’ll be getting a disc, in a rare instance of a film migrating from the Eclipse line to main slate. (New restorations will do that.)

“Something should be happening. But what?” wonder two women named Marie in “Daisies,” Věra Chytilová’s 1966 anarchic sendup of all things bourgeois and authoritarian. At the heart of the film lies the conclusion reached by Marie I and Marie II that the world is “spoiled,” henceforth, they too shall be “spoiled.” Almost immediately banned by authorities in the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic upon release, ‘Daisies’ is as subversive in content as it is experimental in form, as it eschews linear narrative in favor of utilizing various film stocks and montage editing techniques to amplify its critique of authoritarianism and patriarchy.

Few movies loom like Daisies, as beloved among first-year film students as it is revered by experts of the Czech New Wave. But being both introduction and figurehead means you likely haven’t seen it in some time. (Yours truly is going on a decade since their Eastern European Cinema class.) Thus a restoration of Věra Chytilová’s work should be greeted with open arms when it opens at New York’s IFC Center on August 19, followed by Los Angeles and Chicago rollouts on August 26, and for which Janus Films have unveiled a vibrant, musically galvanizing trailer.
Per usual with Janus’ recent releases, the film has simply never looked so good. Color is strong but overall palette retains the era’s muted tones, while grain and noise are especially visible in the trailer’s opening sepia section. It may be about time for another look.

The Cannes Film Festival has set its lineup for this year’s Cannes Classics program, which shines a spotlight on restorations of classic movies and features contemporary documentaries about film. Kicking off the sidebar is Jean Eustache’s controversial film The Mother and the Whore, the 1973 Cannes Grand Prize winner which incited riots at the time. Also included in the program are films by Vittorio de Sica (Sciuscià), Satyajit Ray (The Adversary), Orson Welles (The Trial) and Martin Scorsese (The Last Waltz), as well as a new 4K master of Singin’ in the Rain to mark the movie’s 70th anniversary.
Among the documentaries is Ethan Hawke’s study of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, The Last Movie Stars. Executive produced by Scorsese, it features Karen Allen, George Clooney, Oscar Isaac, Latanya Richardson Jackson, Zoe Kazan, Laura Linney and Sam Rockwell among others in an exploration of the iconic couple and American cinema.

Every so often, a movie comes along that sends culinarily inclined audiences into rapture — “Babette’s Feast,” “Big Night” or “Like Water for Chocolate” spring to mind — getting eyes glistening and mouths watering in anticipation of a meal that only the characters will ever taste. “Flux Gourmet” is not that foodie movie. In fact, “Flux Gourmet” may well send audiences running for the loo, or else reaching for the barf bag, coming about as close to triggering the gag reflux as a film can without actually jamming a finger down your throat.
It’s doubtful that was quite the intention of writer-director Peter Strickland, the content-with-cult-status auteur behind “Berberian Sound Studio” and “In Fabric.” And yet, somewhere around the scene where alimentary performance artist Elle di Elle (Fatma Mohamad) unscrews a stool sample cup and smears the dark chocolaty goo all over her face, audiences will be making like the sickly green Nauseated Face emoji,...

Katy Perry‘s new album “Smile” dropped on August 28, 2020, three years after her last release, “Witness,” underperformed commercially. So will this be the record that puts her back on top? Critics have already started to weigh in. Scroll down to see some of the reviews.
Seebts (‘Dynamite’) made YouTube history, but can their first English-language song finally break them through at the Grammys? [Watch]
As of this writing the album has a MetaCritic score of 59 based on seven reviews thus far: one mostly positive and the rest somewhat mixed, but none outright negative. Perry has never really been a critics’ darling, though. The critical average of her five albums as Katy Perry (after one self-titled Christian rock album as Katy Hudson) is 54. Her 2010 album “Teenage Dream” scored 52, and that didn’t stop it from going eight-times platinum, producing a record-tying five number-one singles, and earning a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year.

Katy Perry has released a new song, “What Makes a Woman,” from her upcoming album Smile, out August 28th.
The track, as you may have guessed, is a celebration of womanhood — and, in a live performance video directed by Tim Sekiguchi, a pregnant Perry delivers a stripped-down, emotional version of the track: “Could spend your whole life, but you couldn’t/Describe what makes a woman/She’s always been a perfect mystery/Could spend your whole life, but you couldn’t/Describe what makes a woman/And that’s...

Katy Perry has released uplifting new song “Smile,” the title track from her upcoming fifth album. Smile will be released on August 14th via Capitol.
Over an upbeat, dance-driven groove to match the positive vibes of the lyrics, Perry extols the virtue of perseverance after suffering setbacks where every day feels like “Groundhog Day” and “going through motions felt so fake.” Ultimately, all the rejection and hard-won lessons pay off, as Perry sings on the chorus: “Now you see me shining from a mile/Finally got back that smile.”

Katy Perry has released an acoustic version of her song “Daisies.” The track is the lead single off the pop star’s upcoming as-yet-untitled fifth album.

This left the Top 5 — Dillon James, Jonny West, Arthur Gunn, Francisco Martin and Just Sam — to sing for America’s real-time votes.
