Awful but interesting

This may not be the worst film ever made, but it's honorable mention material. However there are some interesting, if often hokey, whitewater scenes that are fun to watch if you're into the sport. The climactic chase scene with the bad guys in black boats is a classic.

Essential elements for enjoyment include beer and pretty large doses of suspension of both logic and disbelief.

All long the viewing of this TV movie, I thought of DELIVERANCE, even if the story itself is quite different. Most of John Borman's masterpiece rip offs were survivals, tales of urban folks fighting against wilderness and local red necks. Nothing like this here. Only the wild river scheme and the ecological problems are spoken about. The project of destroying a magnificent river by building a gigantic dam. Although I did not follow everything here. Some greedy, ruthless business men intend to stop at nothing to achieve their goals, even nature suffers from it. And the lead Jim Brolin is the courageous hero fighting against the evil ones, helped by a gorgeous female journalist. Cliché, OK. Heavies are quite interesting, especially the mercenary, the henchman hired to stop Brolin on his canoe, for the climax sequence. And don't miss the opening scene, when Brolin prepares his canoe and gets to the river cliff downhill on the rocks. Astounding and unforgettable sequence. The film maker was the guy who was in charge f HAWAII FIVE O opening credits; remember the giant wave.
