While she retired prematurely at the age of 39, Brigitte Bardot has left an indelible mark on France’s popular culture in the 1960s and 1970s. With her wild blonde mane, smoky eyes and pouty lips, Bardot became a symbol of a modern, effortlessly sexy French woman and a style emblem that continues to inspire current trends.
The event series “Bardot,” which is penned and directed by Daniele Thompson (“The Queen Margot”) and Christopher Thompson (“La bûche”), world premiered at Series Mania Festival to unanimous praise and has been pre-sold by Federation nearly worldwide.
“‘Bardot’ is like the French ‘The Crown’ because Bardot embodied France, and through her journey we reminisce about many parts of France’s history and popular culture in the 1950s and 1960s,” Federation’s boss and “Bardot” producer Pascal Breton told Variety. “That era is a historical moment where everything changes, where we go from black and white to color,...

The Birds And The Bees. Mother Nature Network columnist Vanessa Vadim, whose latest column focuses on eco-friendly sex. Mother Nature Network eco-columnist Vanessa Vadim typically doles out environmentally friendly advice on prosaic items such as cookware, mosquito repellants, and compost piles. In her latest installment, Vadim tackles the, um, ins-and-outs of sex toys and other sexual accoutrements. The daughter of the late French director Roger Vadim (And God Created Woman, Night Games) and actress Jane Fonda (sweaty workout videos, rebellious photo-ops), Vadim posits that, thanks to a complete lack of government regulation, sexual paraphernalia is fraught with nastiness—and that’s before you take off the wrapper. Antiquated laws require that sex toys be labeled as novelties or as gags, not as something that stimulates or enhances the sexual experience. Thus, with no regulation, there is absolutely no product testing and no label warnings. Among the biggest hazards to your health: phthalates,...

Turner Classic Movies is honoring New York's Fashion Week with a list of the films it has deemed the most sartorially influential of all time. First, a look at their Top 15 (in chronological order): Pandora's Box (1929) Letty Lynton (1932) It Happened One Night (1934) Pat and Mike (1952) Rear Window (1954) Rebel Without a Cause (1955) And God Created Woman (1956) Auntie Mame (1958) Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961) Bonnie and Clyde (1967) The Thomas Crown Affair (1968) Shaft (1971) Annie Hall (1977) Saturday Night Fever (1977) Flashdance (1983) Most notable is the '50s- and '60s-heavy lineup -- which perhaps makes some sense, as films were likely the dominant way style was passed from Hollywood to the masses (as opposed to the TV, Us Weekly and internet of today). And there's no arguing with the likes of Breakfast at Tiffany's (which I would deem the most fashionable movie of all time), Bonnie and Clyde, Shaft, Annie Hall, Saturday Night Fever, and Flashdance.
