Legal Innocence (1993) was another "based upon a true story" criminal case. The story was popular enough to inspire two films. This is the better of the two and it stars Anthony Wong, Cecilia Yip, Lawrence Ng and Paul (Chiang) Chu.

An attractive religious student Shirley Cheng (Cecilia Yip) is intrigued with the case that involves a young couple and their involvement in the disappearance of a female co-ed. She decides to interview both people that were arrested for the girl's disappearance, Patrick Wong (Francis Ng) is very sympathetic and begs for the woman's help in a new trial. The female half is completely mad. She turns her attentions in helping the man get released. Lau is a cop who worked on the case (Anthony Wong) is interested in knowing why she wants him released. He feels that he's just as guilty (if not more so) than his companion. Soon , the convict and the lady become lovers and she's determined more than ever to get a new trial for her soon to be husband.

Will the justice system grant Mr. Ng a new trial? How certain is Inspector Lau that the couple is indeed guilty of their crime? What happened to the girl? Will we ever truly know what happened that fateful night? To find out then you'll need to track down a copy of this sadly neglected film.

Highly recommended.
