Amsterdam crime baron Jan van der Ploeg has been shot in his car. After even a TV appeal yields no clues, De Cock grumpily throws in the towel. Then accidental bystander Anouk volunteers information, but only as anonymous witness, contradicting Jan's widow Sacha's eightfold alibi. Supervising magistrate Van Galesloot refuses any witness protection, so still no case officially, but De Cock keeps rattling chains, uncovering the suspiciously well-informed van der Ploeg family lawyer Dijs is also Sasha's lover and her adolescent son Ronald holds a deep grudge.
