Kevin Connolly may be familiar as Ryan Malloy in the 1990s sitcom "Unhappily Ever After," but he's best known for his role as Eric Murphy on HBO's "Entourage." He garnered a Golden Globe nomination for his portrayal of "E," a guy who will go to great lengths to keep best friend Vince on the right track. It was unlikely that "E" would become as a director. Yet Connolly has made his second feature film "Dear Eleanor," starring Isabelle Fuhrman, Liana Liberato, Jessica Alba, Luke Wilson and Patrick Schwarzenegger. Read More: Review: Doug Ellin's 'Entourage' Starring Jeremy Piven, Adrian Grenier, Kevin Dillon & More "Dear Eleanor Roosevelt, I'm writing to you because my friend Ellie has lost her mind." So goes the opening line for the newly released trailer for this coming-of-age story set in 1962 that sees Fuhrman and Liberato playing best friends who decide to go on a cross-country road.

We could not pick just one scene from the great Dil Toh Pagal Hai starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Karishma Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. However, the two that stand out for our writers are:
That moment when Madhuri and Shah Rukh are in adjoining changing rooms in a clothing store, and Madhuri hears him whistle a tune. She later hears it again and knows it was meant to be!

Animation storyboard artist Jeff Hong created this depressing Disney photo series called Unhappily Ever After. It features the sad lives that Disney characters would be living if they were in the real world. It's a good thing they don't live in the real world, though. These movies and the characters in them are there to uplift us, and help us get through our own crazy depressing lives! Poor Jeff must have been having a shitty day when he thought this project up. ...

Long before she hooked up with Justin Timberlake in Friends with Benefits - and Natalie Portman as a bombshell ballerina in Black Swan - Mila Kunis was an unhappy child star. A teddy bear. It’s Entourage‘s last season everyone. The show comes to end Sept. 11 with its series finale. But the week before is what I’m really concerned about right now. The next-to-last episode of the series will be directed by Kevin Connolly according to TV Guide. For the second time in the series, Connolly will be doubling his work load, acting as Eric ‘E’ Murphy and stepping behind the camera. The first time he did this was the Season 7 episode “Porn Scenes from an Italian Restaurant, which was also the episode before the finale.
Not only is Connolly no stranger to directing Entourage, but he’s no stranger to directing in general.
He also directed the 2007 film Gardener of Eden and six episodes of the WB sitcom Unhappily Ever After, which he co-starred on from 1995 to 1999.
I’ve mentioned before that I love it when actors direct their own shows.

I love romantic comedies. I have a good laugh, and the boy and the girl get together in the end. Usually I want the boy and the girl to get together in the end. However, Something Borrowed kind of ruined that, and left me with a romantic comedy that was not at all romantic.
Something Borrowed did have funny moments. Sadly, John Krasinski’s character Ethan was the only one bringing the laughs, and he moved to England at some point during the course of the movie. Ethan was also the only character I cared about and wanted good things for, because he was the least selfish in the entire movie.
The movie was so disappointing that I found other ways to keep myself entertained while watching the movie. One way was noticing that Geoff Pierson was in the movie as Dex’s dad. I have loved Geoff Pierson since Unhappily Ever After,...

It’s been a week since the news broke, and I’m still devastated that Fox won’t be ordering more episodes of Running Wilde. The show wasn’t perfect by a long shot, and it definitely felt quite a bit like the creators were trying to fit the comedy of Arrested Development into a more conventional sitcom. But the show was improving week-by-week, thanks a zippy co-lead performance by Keri Russell. Plus, the supporting cast was incredible (especially Peter Serafinowicz’s Fa’ad, a character who came thiseclose to offensive but instead became a walking joke of excessive decadence.

The Flying Monkey debates which has the bigger gay fanbase: True Blood or Glee? Also this week: Ant on playing a gay teenager at age 28, the greatness of Jonathan Groff, and more anti-gay 'tude on So You Think You Can Dance?
Have a question about gay male entertainment or life? Contact me here (and be sure and include your city and state and/or country!)
Q: What has the bigger gay fanbase: True Blood or Glee? – Lisa, Los Angeles, CA
A: Glee has more total viewers than True Blood – their last season finales drew 10.9 versus 5.1 million viewers, respectively – so it stands to reason that it probably has more gay viewers too.
But ratings may not tell the whole story. Just as in the greater culture, I think there might be something of a generational divide – with younger gay men probably tending to prefer Glee, and older folks maybe gravitating toward True Blood.

Plenty of terrible television programs have been conceived in a marriage of "Character-a is able to talk to non-human Character-b." I recall one such show a while back that featured a middle-aged man who talked with a stuffed dog with the voice of Bobcat Goldthwait. It was called Unhappily Ever After, ran for 100 episodes on The WB, and looked dreadful. How was someone convinced that such a premise could beget a program worth watching? Well, perhaps that someone was some kind of Larry Ellison-type visionary who had a brilliant idea that just couldn't be executed because the appropriate technology didn't exist. Or, more likely, that someone was some kind of well-connected stoner who had a zany idea and and a favor to cash in from network television. It's too bad that someone didn't cast Patrick Duffy nor his crustachioed friend. Clearly it's not easy to execute the "human talks to non-human" thing.

We’ve all seen the cup. “World’s Greatest Dad.” Michael Scott has a similar cup on his desk, one that reads “World’s Greatest Boss.” The genre is of course novelty shop humor, like one of those backyard chef’s barbecue bibs with funny sayings on them that offer slight mockery of the wearer as a kind of pre-apology for the food on the grill. In Bobcat Goldthwait’s new movie, World’s Greatest Dad, his fourth directorial effort after Shakes the Clown, Windy City Heat, and Sleeping Dogs Lie, the cup logo takes on a larger irony but ultimately takes the novelty humor of it very seriously indeed.

Bobcat Goldthwait has had an odd career. He started in movies as a wacky character in the Police Academy series, which then slid into bit television roles and voicing a rabbit puppet on “Unhappily Ever After.” Eventually he wound up directing Comedy Central episodes and “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” tapings.
Now Goldthwait is the director of a twisted black comedy leaving the Sundance Film Festival with an indie following and high marks for pushing the norm. World’s Greatest Dad is currently playing on-demand and opens Friday, August 21 in select theaters.
Robin Williams stars as Lance Clayton, a struggling writer and a grimacing father of one terrible teenager. When he isn’t sighing through a nightmarish parenthood, Lance trudges through the hallways of his high school, tries to connect with the dwindling members of the poetry class, and hopes for something more out of a secret faculty relationship way out of his league.
