Exclusive: John De Mol’s Talpa has been on a run in the U.S. recently with The Floor and The Quiz With Balls both landing at Fox.
Talpa Studios is now taking its latest European format No Way Back to buyers and has teamed up with survival expert Bear Grylls, his Banijay-backed production company The Natural Studios and The Challenge: USA producer Bunim/Murray Productions.
No Way Back, which launched in the Netherlands in January on SBS6, follows a group of adventurers embarking on a grueling trail through Norway’s rugged nature. Along the trail, they pass four camps, each worth a certain amount of money, but reaching the finish is worth more. The adventurers are pushed beyond their limits by experienced commandos.
In the U.S. version, former British Sas trooper Bear Grylls will lead the group of 16 contestants as they navigate through the challenges.

Paris-based company Indie Sales has acquired “Happy Holidays,” the sophomore feature of Oscar-nominated Palestinian filmmaker Scandar Copti.
Copti’s feature debut, “Ajami,” co-directed by Yaron Shani, won the Camera d’Or Special Mention at the Cannes Film Festival in 2009 and was nominated for an Oscar in the international feature category.
“Happy Holidays” takes place in contemporary Israel, where a minor accident in Jerusalem triggers a chain of events. “Lies and unspoken truths will sow division among a multi-faceted patriarchal society,” reads the synopsis.
Nicolas Eschbach, Indie Sales’ CEO and co-founder, described “Happy Holidays” as a “highly-expected second feature from Palestinian director Scandar Copti after his Cannes-selected critically-acclaimed debut.”
Currently in post-production, the film is expected to be delivered in the spring. “Happy Holidays” is produced by Red Balloon Film in Germany, together with Tessalit Productions in France, Intramovies in Italy and Fresco Films in Palestine.

Huw Edwards, the BBC’s lead anchor who broke the news of the Queen’s death last year, will not be returning to the broadcaster, according to reports in the British media.
This week Deadline reported that the UK government had been accused of interfering with the BBC’s independence after piling pressure on the broadcaster to grip the Huw Edwards scandal in July.
Now, The i newspaper reports that an internal investigation into the journalist’s conduct has concluded, and he is now in discussions over his future with BBC managers.
The investigation followed allegations in The Sun newspaper back in July that Edwards had paid a young person to send him explicit photographs. He was also accused of sharing “inappropriate messages” with BBC staff.
At the time, Edwards said in a statement that he had done nothing illegal. In the months since, he has been on sick leave from the BBC,...

As we enter the pilot screenings phase of pilot season, here is the latest installment of Deadline’s Pilot Panic 2018, which tracks buzz on broadcast pilots. While we are only two weeks away from the upfronts, information is still incomplete, with a number of high-profile pilots, like ABC’s Whiskey Cavalier, yet to be delivered. Here are some of the pilots that are making noise at the moment.
ABC’s Nathan Fillion starrer The Rookie, which has a straight-to-series order, DJ Nash ensemble A Million Little Things, and the Eva Longoria-produced Grand Hotel, toplined by Demian Bichir and Roselyn Sanchez, continue to garner strong buzz, joined by suburban drama False Profits starring Bellamy Young and Vanessa Williams. Beyond that things are murky. With rookie cop drama-comedy The Rookie looking assured of a slot of the schedule, the competition among the slew of other law & order pilots ordered by the network this year increases.

Here is the second installment of Deadline’s Pilot Panic 2018 that tracks buzz on broadcast pilots. A month before the upfronts, cuts have finally started to come in, but it’s still early, with some multi-camera comedy pilots yet to shoot and network execs just starting to see the finished pilots. That’s why the information below is preliminary. By end of next week, we should start getting a fuller picture of where most pilots stand.
ABC’s DJ Nash ensemble A Million Little Things and the Eva Longoria-produced Grand Hotel, toplined by Demian Bichir and Roselyn Sanchez, continue to gain early momentum on the drama side. Several cop projects also are heating up. That includes pilots The Finest aka Holmes Sisters, The Mission, as well as the Nathan Fillion starrer The Rookie, which has a straight-to-series order. Beyond that, mystery Salvage, about an ex-cop, has gotten some traction,...

Elevator Pitch:
In 1974, Jan Broberg was kidnapped by her parents best friend, Robert Bechtold. He drugged her and strapped her to a bed in the back of a motorhome, and drove to Mexico. Upon awakening, Jan heard high-pitched voices, repeating commands through a small intercom, leading her to believe that she and Berchtold had been abducted by aliens. The FBI conducted a nationwide manhunt and found Jan 5 weeks later. Jan’s family remained oblivious to Berchtold’s diabolical intentions towards their daughter. His calculated...

With how rapidly David Guetta was becoming the butt of every joke in the world of Edm, he had to do something to re-establish his credibility. This past weekend, he did just that, by delivering an “Influences” Essential Mix for BBC Radio 1 that’s chock full of the ’80s house and techno that inspired him to become a DJ in the first place.
We’ve briefly mentioned Guetta’s illustrious musical history recently, and it looks like the proper house bug has bit him again as the mix features some amazing classics. DJ Sneak and Laurent Garnier grace the many seminal names on the track list, all of whom contribute to the retro wonkiness of the mix as a whole. If Guetta feels it necessary to go to these kinds of measures to appeal to an increasingly discerning world of music fans, we’re not complaining.

Session 9 director Brad Anderson is set to direct a new film project! A psychological thriller called Restart, which is based on Matthew Klein’s novel No Way Back. I enjoy Anderson's work, which also includes The Machinist, Transibierian, and most recently, The Call, which wasn't his best film.
The story centers on an ordinary man who discovers that his entire life is being infiltrated and manipulated by a terrifying criminal network. This seems like a great project for Anderson to develop, as it seems like a story that would fit his style.
The director is currently in production on another project, called Eliza Graves, which stars Kate Beckinsale, Jim Sturgess, Michael Caine, and Ben Kingsley.
Here's a description of the book:
Jimmy thinks he knows about loss, about fear, about paranoia. He should think again.Every time Jimmy Thane has been faced with a crossroad, he's taken the wrong path.

On a day where football was put into perspective by the tragic events of yesterday’s tie between Tottenham and Bolton, Manchester United held back nothing as they thrashed Wolves 5-0. Fabrice Muamba was announced to be in ‘critical condition’ after collapsing in yesterday’s Fa Cup, and this was honoured by both sets of players and supporters with a minute’s applause prior to kick off. Two goals from Javier Hernandez and one apiece for Danny Welbeck, Antonio Valencia and Jonny Evans helped United to victory.
Neither Manchester United or Wolves can be completely satisfied with their respective seasons so far. Naturally Sir Alex Ferguson can be happier – his side are looking strong in the title challenge, but then they usually are there or thereabouts and now they’ve crashed out of the Europa League, the poor man’s Champion’s League (‘poor’ might be a bit of an...

I was rather skeptical when it was announced that Matt Smith was taking over the role of Doctor Who for the new incarnation's fifth season, but I was pleasantly surprised by his abilities from the very first episode. Each new Doctor faces a massive challenge stepping into a role that has been around since the early 1960s, and is moreover a cultural icon in a sense that nearly reinvents the term, but Smith had the further hurdle of following David Tennant, and he had reinvigorated the franchise to a degree that many might have thought impossible.
The first episode of the season is among the best efforts of the new foray into the Doctor Who series (yes, it's hard to make sense of this being the fifth season of Doctor Who), with the new Doctor meeting his new companion, but as a young girl. Not only a solid story on its own,...

Activision and the "Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock" team paced themselves publicizing the full set list of more than 90 tracks that's slated to appear in the game, but they've put it all out there as of this week, and before you even make it to Soundgarden's full "Telephantasm" album that's coming bundled in the first shipment of units, you'll have a long list of core game tunes to thrash through including The Hives' "Tick Tick Boom" and multiple Megadeth and Rush numbers.
"We engaged our fans to find out what they really wanted and then hand-picked over 90 tracks that deliver the ultimate rock experience," Guitar Hero vice president of music affairs Tim Riley said in a press release. "From the new guitar controller to the gameplay to the on-disc set list, 'Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock' is truly a return to rock."

Released to coincide with the Us theatrical release of the Josh Brolin film Jonah Hex, Jonah Hex: No Way Back is an original graphic novel by the acclaimed writing team of Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti, and features the art of Tony DeZuniga. The book is a “back to its roots” story, that sees Hex come to terms with the death of a loved one long thought lost, battles El Papagayo and his gang of bandits and tries to make peace with his past.
I’ve only ever had a casual relationship with the Jonah Hex comics, often dipping in and out when a favourite artist or writer joined the creative team or when the story was recommended by friends or my local comic shop. So the chance to dip my toes back into Hex waters was too much to pass up when the guys at DC sent me...

Activision and Neversoft haven't publicized all of the "90 plus" tracks it's promised for "Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock" yet, but they have gotten about two thirds of the way there since our last update. Rush fans should be especially pleased by the list after the jump, which contains every track confirmed thus far.
Hard rock is making a comeback in this game. Drum controllers may take a beating, though. Here's what you can look forward to:
• A Perfect Circle - "The Outsider"
• AFI - "Dancing Through Sunday"
• Alice Cooper - "No More Mr. Nice Guy"
• Alter Bridge - "Ties That Bind"
• Anthrax - "Indians"
• Atreyu - "Ravenous"
• Avenged Sevenfold - "Bat Country"
• Bad Brains - "Re-Ignition (Live)"
• Black Sabbath - "Children of the Grave"
• Blue Oyster Cult - "Burnin' For You"
• Bush - "Machinehead"
• Buzzcocks - "What Do I Get?"
• Children of Bodom - "If You Want Peace... Prepare For...

Just when you thought the Western had hung up its guns, "Jonah Hex" arrives in theaters this weekend.
While "Hex" stars Josh Brolin and Megan Fox are hoping the big-screen debut of DC's scarred bounty hunter does well enough to merit another whiskey-swigging adventure, comic book readers know that Jonah Hex has been kicking ass and slinging a six-shooter for nearly four decades now — and he's not alone. The western hero is not only alive and well in the comic world, there's a multitude of characters and stories to choose from, depending on your personal tastes.
Reckon you'd like to try out a few comics set in the Wild West?

“The world is a boring place. Come with me, and enter a world populated of Demi-Gods and Beasts. Transform from an everyday person and become the savior of rock and roll. It was an honor and privilege to narrate Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, even more so, to voice the Demi God. From the God of Thunder to the Demi-God, how cool is that…”
So says the man himself, Gene Simmons of Kiss. And with that, Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock is announced.
Not content to merely re-package last year’s effort, Warriors of Rock is bringing a lot of new material to the Guitar Hero table. Central to the game is the all new Quest Mode. From the press release:
“In Quest Mode… players will embark on a larger-than-life, epic rock journey from the stage of CBGBs, the infamous punk-rock club in New York City, to the molten lava...

Gene Simmons of Kiss, who will join the Guitar Hero series as a narrator this time around, called his new role an "honor and privilege."

DC Comics is to publish an original Jonah Hex graphic novel titled No Way Back. Written by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti, the book is illustrated by Hex co-creator Tony DeZuniga. Its launch will coincide with the release of the comic's cinematic adaptation. "John Albano and Tony DeZuniga originally conceived the premise for this story, but were unfortunately unable to tell it for one reason or another. Tony mentioned to us that they'd wanted to do a story that involved Jonah Hex having a brother," Gray told Newsarama. "The original hardcover has grown from that seed into a (more)...

Legendary comic artist Tony DeZuniga will be returning to one of his most famous creations in “Jonah Hex: No Way Back,” an original graphic novel with the current “Jonah Hex” writers Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti.
According to DC's official blog, the graphic novel will be released in May 2010 in conjunction with the upcoming “Jonah Hex” movie starring Josh Brolin, Megan Fox and John Malkovich. Additionally, DeZuniga was also responsible for the genesis of this project; according to Gray.
“Jonah Hex has a brother,” revealed Gray. “That’s the idea that came up decades earlier in discussions between writer John Albano and Tony DeZuniga. Tony casually mentioned this to us and that idea has been brought to life in the hardcover. Bold, brazen violent and surprisingly tender, this is the consummate tale of the Wild West’s greatest bounty hunter.”

Do The Right Thing: 20th Anniversary Edition (Universal) Spike Lee’s groundbreaking fable about race relations in an ethnically mixed Brooklyn neighborhood during a sweltering New York summer remains as potent, timely and prescient as it was in 1989. Lee is among the cast, which also includes John Turturro, Danny Aiello, Samuel L. Jackson, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, and Rosie Perez (to name a few), that provide the tableaux-like framework for this stunning work. Criminally ignored by Oscar (it wasn't even nominated for Best Picture, but did garner nods for Supporting Actor Danny Aiello and Lee’s screenplay), it endures as a timeless classic. Also available on Blu-ray disc. Bonuses: Commentary by Lee, Ernest Dickerson, Wynn Thomas, Joie Lee; Documentary; Deleted and extended scenes; Featurettes. Widescreen. Dolby and DTS 5.1 surround.
