Fans of Half Mermaid and Sam Barlow’s point-and-click horror adventure game Immortality (which Aaron reviewed here) will be happy to know that the developers are working on two projects, which are referred to for the moment as Project C and Project D. That being said, Half Mermaid has launched Steam pages for the two respective games, but are playing it coy with blacking out a lot of the info.
Project C is referred to as being a new cinematic title, which according to the description will have something special “for the first time ever” in a video game. Looking at the tags (if they’re to be believed), the game will be a psychological horror cyberpunk title that utilizes full-motion video. Meanwhile, Project D is a Survival Horror title that takes place in 1983, and involves a nurse. The tags for Project D have it as a cinematic Metroidvania with a female protagonist.

God of War Ragnorok made good on its record-breaking haul of BAFTA Games Awards nominations by emerging with the largest number of gongs from the 2023 ceremony.
Held on Thursday night in London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall on the Southbank (and livestreamed on Twitch), the event — hosted by Julia Hardy and Inel Tomlinson — saw Sony’s bloody battle into Norse mythology win six awards, including performance honors for Christopher Judge and Laya DeLeon Hayes and Game of the Year, the only award voted for by the public. The game — the sequel to 2019’s God of War (itself a BAFTA Game of the Year winner) — had gone into the night with 14 nominations.
However, in something of a major shock, indie shooter Vampire Survivors — a title largely solely developed by Luca Galante — landed the top best game prize.

Before listening to this week’s discussion on Immortality, please check out last week’s conversation on Scanner Sombre, Lidar.Exe, and Gamescom 2022!
At 30, I tend to think I have experienced a great deal of what games have to offer. Not to place a cap on the medium’s potential or to say there’s a drought of quality titles, yet I often find I more or less know what I’m getting myself into before sitting down to play a new title.
And that’s fine. I still enjoy all manner of games across all genres, but a game these days rarely makes me reexamine the potential of storytelling in games.
[Immortality Enters From Stage Left]
Then there’s Immortality, which challenged my perception of the possibilities of storytelling in games, doing so in the most precise and intriguing ways. Half Mermaid and creative director and writer Sam Barlow build upon the Fmv frameworks...

Katharina Kastner's Villa Empain, which is receiving an exclusive global online premiere on Mubi, is showing in Mubi's Brief Encounters series. When I first entered Villa Empain, a museum of contemporary art in Brussels, I had a particular sensation, as if I witnessed a folding of times, as if the house would communicate its elusive inner life to me. The feeling grew stronger as I stepped into a room with an installation of Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, who had re-invoked the bedroom of the Villa’s creator, Louis Empain. There was an almost tangible intimacy, which I had never before felt in a public space. As I started to learn about the life of Louis Empain, who built the house at only 22 years of age in 1934, I was truly touched—for one, how this very young man was even capable of creating such a marvelous blend of two distinct architectural styles,...

The many clones Tatiana Maslany played on Orphan Black banded together to fight Neolution, and this was when it mainly was a belief for people who’d undergone technological enhancements, like tails. The Immortality or Bust trailer follows the man who invented volcano surfing as he rides a transhuman wave to Washington.
On The Six Million Dollar Man, Lee Major’s astronaut Steve Austin was rebuilt into the world’s first bionic man. Government scientists made him “better, stronger and faster” through biotechnical enhancements. The man at the center of Immortality or Bust wants to take that one step further. “Do you want to live forever and become a cyborg,” asks the official website. “In the last Presidential election, one man embarked on an impossible expedition to defeat aging and forever change the human being through science. Running for President as the Transhumanist Party nominee, Zoltan Istvan took his message to bio hacking labs,...

They wanted to call it “Life,” and by the time Pearl Jam began recording their third album, their lives seemed pretty charmed. Hailee Steinfeld’s Emily Dickinson makes a promise to have one killer legacy in the latest trailer for Dickinson, premiering November 1st on Apple TV+ — the same day the new streaming platform launches.
The new “Immortality” trailer features more dream imagery than previous teasers for the show, and peppers in more hints at the budding romance between Dickinson and Sue Gilbert, portrayed by Ella Hunt. Tiff’s Midnight Madness program turned 25 this year, and for two and half decades, the hardworking programers have gathered some of the strangest, most terrifying, wild, intriguing and downright entertaining films from around the world. From dark comedies to Japanese gore-fests and indie horror gems, the Midnight Madness program hasn’t lost its edge as one the leading showcases of genre cinema. In its 25-year history, Midnight Madness has introduced adventurous late-night moviegoers to such cult faves as Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused and Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. But what separates Midnight Madness from, say, Montreal’s three and half week long genre festival Fantasia, is that Tiff selects only ten films to make the cut. In other words, these programmers don’t mess around. Last week I decided that I would post reviews of my personal favourite films that screened in past years. And just like the Tiff programmers,...

How seriously do you think I take Halloween? Well, I’m fairly frickin’ anal retentive anyway, so I need to book my viewing in advance. I mean I’ll deviate from my itinerary, but I at least need a plan. I can’t be the only one out there with a stick up his ass. So this October/Halloween Season I figured we needed a little guidance. There’s too many damn channels on the cable box, no horror hosts and shit for advertising. So let me be your TV Guide… Keeper.
We won’t touch on everything and I’m sure new programming will come up as October gets itself moving. I’ll throw an update out there from time to time if a special is airing or a new programming line up is discovered, uncovered, revealed or undead. Yes, this is for cable or dish. Network TV will...

A few days ago we learned that Twilight Saga: Eclipse and 30 Days Of Night director David Slade had signed on to helm the adaptation of Bram Stoker’s The Last Voyage Of The Demeter. Ben Kingsley and Noomi Rapace have been attached to play in the film, but now there is word that another big-named actor is about to join the cast. No we’re not sure what that means. It could be someone on the ship, like the captain or one of the crew, or maybe he could be play ol’ Vlad the Impaler. Either way, we’re definitely excited to hear this news. Law is a tremendous actor and could certainly bring a lot to the film, regardless of who he ends up playing. I think it’d...
