A deal is "being hammered out as we speak" for Baby Driver 2, admits Edgar Wright...
Cruising to over $100m at the American box office over the summer was Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, something of a dream project for the writer/director. Around the time of the film’s release too, Wright admitted that there was some possibility of a sequel to the film. And now, in the light of the success of the first movie, it seems as though Baby Driver 2 is accelerating. And quickly.
“Those talks are already in the works. The deal is being hammered out as we speak”, Wright has now told Entertainment Weekly. “Hopefully, I’m going to at least write a second one. I’ve definitely got lots of ideas. Whether it’s the next movie, I don’t know. I’m just working that out at the moment, actually. I...

Earlier this year, critics group made headlines when they came together to protest Disney’s decision to ban the Los Angeles Times’ access to the studio’s films. The ban was eventually lifted, but it raised a number of questions about how critics and studios maintain an ongoing relationship.
During a recent panel discussion at the Key West Film Festival moderated by IndieWire’s Eric Kohn, Los Angeles Times’ critic Kenneth Turan was joined by Rolling Stone’s David Fear, Time Out New York’s Joshua Rothkopf, Buzzfeed’s Alison Willmore, and Miami-based freelancer Juan Barquin to discuss the ramifications of Disney’s decision and other related issues. The following is an edited excerpt from that conversation.

For every The Best Years of Our Lives, there are dozens of Act of Valors. Despite fairly few war films concerning the aftermath and coming home, Ptsd has inflicted millions of soldiers and, most recently, cases pertaining to veterans of Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq have made headlines and become more topical, stripping away taboos.
Jason Hall’s Thank You for Your Service, which depicts the emotional trauma of several Iraq War veterans upon returning home, means well and its message — we need to better take care of our own — is felt loud and clear. Based on the popular and acclaimed book by David Finkel, which featured soldiers struggling to readjust to family and civilian life, it doesn’t flinch when it comes time to depict a soldier at their lowest state post-war. Jesse Williams isn't taking his estranged wife Aryn Drake-Lee's request for sole custody of their two children lightly.
On Monday, the Grey's Anatomy star filed new docs asking for joint legal custody of their 3-year-old daughter, Sadie, and 2-year-old son, Maceo.
In the legal documents obtained by Et, Williams also refutes the claims made by Drake-Lee in her declaration, where she claims he has "not recognized and prioritized the children’s schedule over his own." She further stated that asking for sole custody was also in part to "prevent the children from seeing a revolving door of intimate partners."

The dispute between film studio and estate of the fantasy author ends ‘amicably’.
Warner Bros has settled its five-year legal battle with the estate of The Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit author J.R.R. Tolkien and his publisher.
The breakthrough came in a legal filing in Los Angeles on Friday (June 30) that both sides said was amicable and stemmed from an $80m lawsuit brought by the estate and publisher HarperCollins in 2012.
The plaintiffs alleged the studio, subsidiary New Line and rights holder Saul Zaentz Co. overstepped their authority and were in breach of copyright and contract.
At issue was the claim that an agreement going back several decades entitled the defendants to create merchandise based on The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings books, but not certain exploitations that came to include online games.

Believe it or not, movie sets aren’t always happy, enjoyable work environments, where everyone gets along and has a grand old time. Some actors are notoriously difficult to work with, as are some directors, and many films have behind the scenes drama that we usually don’t hear about. One project where stories of on set arguments and feuds came to light though was Mad Max: Fury Road.
Around the time it released, there were rumors that Charlize Theron and Tom Hardy had some beef, though you wouldn’t know it, as each actor gave an incredible performance in what many call one of the greatest action films, ever. Still, reports said that they weren’t on good terms while making the movie and now, co-star Zoe Kravitz has confirmed it.
During an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, here’s what she had to share:

With the advent of the internet, we might be forgiven for thinking that outlandish claims and tall tales would be chased away by the might of Google or a website like Snopes, where myth-busting facts are but a search term or click away. Instead, the web has allowed creepy stories and urban legends to travel more quickly than ever, as they’re copied and pasted in forums, emails and social media posts - hence the oft-used term 'creepypasta', used to describe these strange,...

Few movie projects have toyed with our emotions as brutally as Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy 3. This year’s Oscar ceremony will be remembered because of something out of the ordinary — an incident that has literally not happened in five decades. It’s fair to assume that steps will be taken to make sure a similar mix-up will not be repeated for years.
But while the Academy reflects on that startling twist, it should also consider what has, sadly, become commonplace each year. It would be appreciated by millions of viewers and artists across the globe if the ceremony they eagerly anticipate for months viewed them with empathy and affection. There’s a difference between telling a good joke and being the butt of one.
Much of the three-hour 2017 Oscar ceremony was tarnished by tone-deaf jokes that veered into racism. The blame for that lies mostly with host Jimmy Kimmel (and his writers) — but every year, the Academy chooses a host seemingly incapable of avoiding gags...

It would be appreciated by millions of viewers and artists across the globe if the ceremony they eagerly anticipate for months viewed them with empathy and affection. There’s a difference between telling a good joke and being the butt of one.

With production due to begin on the Aquaman movie in May, we revisit the 2006 TV series pilot for The WB...
We live in times where superhero stories have been told from every possible perspective. There’s the gritty, Dark Knight-style reboot in Arrow, buoyant yet thoughtful fun in The Flash, a daft workplace sitcom in Powerless. The inundation of superhero stories contributes immensely to the juncture we’re in known as ‘peak TV’, and network execs are spending a great deal of money and time trying to locate any untapped angle. While Arrow effectively set the ball rolling when it came to the DC TV universe, it would be remiss not to mention Smallville.

Florida public relations executive Jake Keiser never “in a million years” thought she’d leave behind her work-driven life in Tampa Bay to start a sustainable farm in rural Oxford, Mississippi.
But after suffering six miscarriages, the self-described “workaholic” found herself deeply depressed — and in need of a change, and a breath of fresh farm air.
“After the loss of my last baby, I coped by overworking,” Keiser, 43, tells People. “It was a clue I wasn’t happy and something was broken.
“I was severely depressed and I needed to start living again, to give myself permission to feel pain.

Though already having the pleasure of speaking to Michelle Williams on camera, we were also granted the fortunate chance to speak to her again, in a more relaxed setting, while the talented actress was in London during the film festival.
Williams tells us why she would’ve signed on to the project before even reading the screenplay, and just how exhausting an experience it has proven to be. She also tells us which of her films she regrets making, and her thoughts on being involved in the Oscars conversation – and not for the first time. Finally, the interview has some minor spoilers – so be careful if you’re yet to see the film.

Around the time the "Sony Hack" emails found their way online, we heard that a big part of Sony's decision to partner with Marvel for a Spider-Man reboot was the fact that company head Kaz Hirai wanted Andrew Garfield gone. That reportedly stemmed from the British actor failing to appear at an event he was holding, an event which would have seen Hirai announce The Amazing Spider-Man 3! So, is there any truth to that? You'll have to ask Hirai, but in an interview with The Guardian, Garfield was asked about possibly being "let go" for missing that event in Brazil and whether he skipped that in the hope of getting fired (after all, he's made no secret of his disappointment with the franchise). "No, I don’t think so," Garfield laughed when it was put to him that he may have been a no-show to self-sabotage himself. "What I...

Thanks to strong ratings in its first few weeks – including their highest series premiere numbers since 2014 – A&E's Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath surprised viewers with not one, but two episodes this Christmas week. In Monday's special installment, Remini answered questions from her Reddit "Ask Me Anything" and introduced the story of Paulette Cooper, a journalist who was allegedly the target of a nasty Scientology PR campaign called "Operation Freakout." (More on that in a bit.) That was followed up by last night's hour, which focused on current Church of Scientology leader,...

As paparazzi snapped photos of the couple, the 35-year-old actor — who’s expecting his second child, a daughter, with Roemer — bent down and kissed the mom-to-be’s baby belly. At the event, Murray opted for a navy blue suit and 32-year-old Roemer donned a black bodycon dress.

Newly released court filings suggest that Prince‘s massive estate is worth $200 million — but will likely shell out a large amount in federal and state taxes, the Associated Press reports.
Based on a court filing involving Bremer Trust, the institution handling Prince’s finances, his estate has an estimated value of about $200 million, according to the AP, who calculated the estimate and confirmed the number with two estate law experts.
One lawyer for Bremer Trust initially said that Prince’s unreleased music, musical catalog, Paisley Park studio complex and other assets could be worth between $100 million and $300 million.

Alain Moussi is a very happy man. When we spoke to him on the phone to talk about the home release of Kickboxer: Vengeance his enthusiasm and passion for the film and all things action movie related were in abundance and rightly so. Moussi has been working in stunts for years, doubling for the likes of Henry Cavill, Aaron Eckhart and recently Hugh Jackman in this year’s X-Men: Apocalypse, but Kickboxer has given him not only the chance to play his first lead role, but to act alongside several of his childhood heroes. There’s also the benefit that two sequels have already been greenlit and are under production already, so here’s hoping Moussi’s first franchise shines a light on his burgeoning talent.

While X-Men: Apocalypse may have closed out the second Bryan Singer trilogy with a bit of a wimper, fans have every right to expect that the currently-untitled Wolverine III won’t do the same. Wolverine is a character who has always been more fit for an R-rating than a PG-13 one, and as such, with this third flick, it’s fitting that the studio would allow actor Hugh Jackman and director James Mangold go all out should the story require it.
For a film that comes out in just five months, however, we know surprisingly little about it — especially a comic book film. Well, I can imagine that won’t be the case for very long. The summer is officially over, and while this marks the start of the upcoming Oscar season for film fans, it’s not nearly as crowded on the blockbuster front as it was a couple months back.

This article contains major spoilers for Dexter.
Mention Dexter nowadays and you’d be hard pressed to get a response that isn’t either a snort of derisive laughter or an exaggerated eye roll. On the rare occasion that anybody does devote more than the briefest exhalation of breath on discussing that show, you might hear the word ‘lumberjack’ before more laughter and a hasty subject change. The fact is, in 2016, ten years on from the debut of Dexter’s first season, the show has become a punchline.
Lest I accidently give the impression that I’m bemoaning this fact, I’m really not; Dexter spent its twilight years doing everything in its power to squander all the goodwill built up from a superlative early run of seasons,...

Director Shane Black is very excited about The Predator, and he's getting close enough to casting that fans can start getting excited about it too. Around the time James Franco was rumored to be in contention for the lead role, we heard that this film's main character would be named Quinn Mackenna, and we know that the movie will take place thirty-plus years after the events of the original (seemingly making it more of a sequel than a remake or reboot), but beyond that, concrete details are hard to come by.
