A Very Unique Film

There have been many documentaries of the Holocaust, giving various viewpoints. Seldom do we see the Holocaust through the eyes of the children of survivors.

Two Israeli rock musicians, Yehuda Poliker and Ya'akov Gilad, sons of survivors, capture their parents' story through their music. The film does wander from this main theme at times, but it remains a powerful and emotional testimony to the best of humanity.

An excellent film about the Holocaust combining personal stories with music.

The first time I saw this film I was 12 years old and I saw it as part of the "Memorial day for the Holocaust" activities at school. I remember the strong effect the film had on me emotionally. This film features one of the great musicians of Israel, Yehuda Poliker and his Music producer Ya'akov Gilad. Both of them have parents who went through the Holocaust in different parts of Europe. The combination of a difficult family background and upbringing and music leave a strong impact on the viewer. It is also a great demonstration of how a musician's personal life merges into his or hers music. The movie traces the creation of Poliker's record which expresses the kind of atmosphere that dominated his home throughout his whole life. I strongly recommend this movie to everyone especially people not from Israel who seem to encounter the experiences of the Holocaust solely through films such as "Schindler's List". I also recommend Poliker's CD and music in general.

I can't recommend this movie too much

I think this is the finest movie made about the Holocaust, bar none. It is totally free of sentiment, and that is exactly what makes it so moving.

It is especially important as it tells of the Sephardic Holocaust, which has gone all to unnoticed among the better know story of the "Western" Jews.

Personally, I also was glad that this film had a secular point of view, as very often on is left with the impression that the only Jews who died were religious, which is of course not true. In fact, because of this it took a while before this film was shown with other programs in Israel on Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Very recommended.
