This movie just didnt do it for me. You really need to go back in time to that 80s mindset if you're going to enjoy this one. Jaya was sweet in role but her character takes an unexpected turn in the second half that isn't properly explained. Sridevi is functional. Jeetendra is awful. It's as though he showed up for the scene, someone gave him his lines and he repeated them. Kadar khan is annoying as usual. Shakti was ok. Except for the two more well known songs, they rest were forgettable. The story was unrealistic but i guess that is to expected from a typical 80s masala potboiler. High points of the movie is jaya prada's beauty and her dedication to the character throughout.

Orphan Janki toils hard to educate younger sister Lalita. Janki is in love with Ram, who is studying law in the city. When he returns he is grateful to janki for looking after his mother in his absence. But he falls for the vivacious Lalita instead.

When Lalita finds out that janki too loves the same man, she marries the local goon and leaves the village. Circumstances force ram to marry janki. One day he meets Lalita again and finds out she has a son. Who is the child's father? To find out watch the drama unfold.

There is a lot of dancing around pots n pans and oranges and mangoes. Also the best saree exhibition you will ever see in bollywood.Remember Shakti Kapoor's "AAAOOOOO Lalita".

Brilliant

Best film with Jeetendra-Jayaprada-Sridevi trio. They rock. A very beautiful and touching film. Jayapradha scores above the rest for acting and dances; Sridevi performs well for some parts. Jayaprada and Sridevi are sisters; they look like real. They love the same man (Jeetnedra) and before he realizes the love shared between them; Jayapradha confesses her love. Exceptionsl twist of sacrifice and love between sisters. The soundrack to this film is beautiful and combies the sounds beautifully. All the songs are great to lisne; the most famous being Tohfs..Tohfa..picturised beautifully on Jayaprada and Jeetendra. A classic scene is when Sridevi comes home after marrying Shakti Kapoor and the showdown follows with sister Jayaprada. Another highlight is the love confessions scene between sisters. A shame that they don't make interesting films like these anymore...

Revisiting 80s in 2010, Tohfa turned out to be one of the best, or shall I say the best SrideviJeetuJaya ventures. This movie has everything you ask for. A gripping storyline, an engaging presentation, excellent comedy, beautiful songs and dances and above all awesome Sridevi and Jaya Prada along with Jitendra. They look breathtakingly beautiful, give powerful performance and the ladies..boys can they dance? Although the story of two friends or sisters loving the same man has been told many times, Tohfa's take on this is different. This movie never drags ,you are on the edge as many unexpected things unfold throughout till the end of this movie. Kader Khan in his character role was flawless; Shakti Kapoor did the both hilarious and villainous act equally well. Who can forget Aaaaooooo Lalita . Tohfa did not miss one single attempt at comedy. All the lead actors got different shades to act and enough scope to showcase their talent. Jaya Prada's motherly love and care for his sister and negative shades towards the end were executed perfectly. Jitendra was good both at his playful act in the 1st half and as a father, a responsible husband and an estranged lover in the 2nd half. But as usual, the actor who remains in your mind from the start till the end and as time passes , the actor who makes you watch this movie once again is Sridevi. She is charismatic. She is powerful. Her screen presence is immense. You cannot see beyond her. She is makes you go ga ga with her naughty acts and dances in the 1st half, you can feel her agony, her sacrifice and you will feel her suffering through her sheer expressions through the end. Be it tragedy, comedy, dances, drama .she does everything perfectly. Overall, Tohfa is an out and out entertainer.

dramas, love and songs

Since its first release in 1984,I have watched the movie again and again and yet again, and 14 years since, the movie still manages to create that thrilling impact on me.The songs with pans, flowers and sarees may be considered outdated as compared to present Hindi movies, but still can amaze you with the visual sights. Music by Bappi Lahiri still leaves you craving for more, songs sung beautifully by Kishore Kumar or Lata Mangeshkar leaves you wishing you owner of such voices never have to die or retire and sing for ever. The heart rendering background music that highlights each and every emotion cannot be found in today's movies. And of course comes the performances.Jeetendra has been acting in movies since late 60's and earned the tittle "jumping jack" in the 70's, but it is because of the such movies he played in the 80's that he will be remembered. Sridevi's performance is flawless, and it's no wonder that she was hailed as the queen of bollywood.Jeetendra and Sridevi make the best pair of the 80's. Not only Tohfa, but many other movies they played together like Himmatwala,Mawali,Maqsad were super duper hits.Jaya Pradha as a supporting actress gave a powerful performance, while Kader Khan was at its best not only in acting, but also as writer of the dialog of the movie.Shakti Kapoor, with his tag line"Auu Lalitha" gave a performance which he himself will never match. This movie as an all-time blockbuster.

A picture perfect

Great performances, dances and songs. Above all Sridevi is brilliant. One of her super hit films with Jeetendra in her early career.

Jumping jack is great in film. Sridevi is absolutely outstanding in this one. I can't understand telugu and i don't watch telugu or tamil films but even though its a remake of whatever its still brilliant.

Someway this remake is needed because for wide audience because more people watch Hindi films world wide even at that time even more did. Excellent music, cinematography, and beautiful locations, able performance by Jaya Pradha. Its a gripping story. Considered as Screen rivals SRIDEVI and jayapradha are 2 sisters and love the same men when Jeetu only loves Sridevi but as they say love the one and marry the other. So things are shapy. Shakti kapoor's famous dialogue is in this movie as well. He is a crazy villain in the film as well. Kader Khan has also some nice part in film. Great pair Sridevi and Jeetendra. Watch it if you like to watch Sridevi's films and her. brilliant songs and dances.
