Pooch the Pup enters an automobile race in this funny grab-bag vehicle from Walter Lantz.

The title is a spoof of the hit James Cagney movie THE CROWD ROARS and the gags are all automobile related -- well sort of, if you are using cartoon logic. The Pooch the Pup series, with about a dozen entries, was a kitchen sink comedy, with lots of gags inserted; if this one didn't make you laugh, another would be along in a second that might strike you as funny.

There are some excellent Pooch the Pup cartoons. My favorite is MERRY DOG. Unfortunately, Pooch never developed any personality. He remained a white-face clown who did funny stuff, but who could be replaced by any other white-faced clown -- and was. This is a good one though. James Dietrich scores the music with a lot of fast-paced xylophone music to drive the pace. If you have a taste for 1930s cartoon, this will be a pleasant experience.
