Spider-Man: No Way Home was Sony Pictures' biggest movie ever, grossing just shy of $2 billion at the worldwide box office. However, the studio has since delivered two critical and commercial flops with Morbius and Madame Web.
Talking to Deadline about Sony's upcoming slate of projects, Sony Motion Pictures Group Chairman Tom Rothman singled out Spider-Man 4, Venom: The Last Dance, and the undated Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse as three of their most must-see releases.
"I think a healthy slate going forward is not going to be one side of the divide or the other," he started. "It’s going to have a balance of big IP solid sequels. Let me tell you when the last of the Spider-Verse movies comes with Phil Lord and Chris Miller, it’s going to be a significant event, as will the next Tom Holland Spider-Man film."

Spider-Man: Far From Home introduced audiences to Mysterio, one of Spider-Man’s most important and dastardly villains. Jake Gyllenhaal’s portrayal of the character had audiences believing that the character was genuinely heroic, even those who thought they knew how the character was in the comics. However, the film also introduced another important character into the MCU: Spider-Man’s very first antagonist from way back in The Amazing Spider-Man #1.

Dmitri Smerdyakov is the oldest antagonist that Spider-Man ever faced, better known as The Chameleon. Half-brother to Kraven the Hunter, the character has had a long history with Spider-Man, created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Dmitri was present in Spider-Man: Far From Home as a background character, appearing in several shots as a close associate of Nick Fury.

An iconic woman needs an apt setting.
So, to mark its 100th anniversary, Columbia Pictures has teamed with the Municipality of Cannes to put the studio’s instantly recognizable Torch Lady and roster of legendary actresses on full display as part of a free photographic exhibit in the historic city’s town square, just off the Croisette and with the Palais and Mediterranean Sea serving as a backdrop.
The exhibit, dubbed “Lighting the Way: From the Torch Lady to Leading Ladies,” includes outdoor installations emblazoned with Columbia’s longstanding symbol as well as more than 30 rare photographs from the studio’s archive spanning Hollywood’s Golden Age through present day, The photographs include ones of Katherine Hepburn, Deborah Kerr, Claudette Colbert, Ann-Margret, Meryl Streep, Viola Davis, Julia Roberts, Michelle Yeoh, and, naturally, “Gilda” star Rita Hayworth. A restored version of that film is screening this year as part of the festival’s Cannes Classics program.

Earlier this week, we learned of plans for Noir, a new Spider-Man TV series coming to Amazon's Prime Video. While it's still early days, the project will see Nicolas Cage suit up after first playing the title character in 2018's animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
There was no mention of Silk: Spider Society during Amazon's Upfronts earlier this week and, yesterday evening, we learned that the streamer has scrapped plans for the series.
The Hollywood Reporter has since chimed in, confirming that Phil Lord and Chris Miller remain attached to Sony's small screen Spider-Verse. The filmmakers "were handed control of the studio’s Marvel slate" as part of a deal first made with the studio in 2019.
"Plans for the interconnected Marvel slate of Sony shows remains in place, sources say, though only Noir will be part of that now unless another buyer for Silk emerges," the trade adds.

Maximum Carnage. Absolute Carnage. King in Black. Every few years, the wild symbiote corner of the Marvel Universe erupts in a saga oozing with violence, drama, and insanity that only Venom and his kind can deliver. Writer Al Ewing has been laying the foundation for this story since the beginning of his current run of Venom. Two years after Silk: Spider Society was officially announced, the live-action Spider-Man series has been scrapped.
Silk: Spider Society was poised to become the first of several live-action Marvel shows based on Sony Pictures’ library of Spidey characters, but that honour will (likely) now go to Noir, the recently announced series starring Nicholas Cage.
Based on characters created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos, the series would have followed Cindy Moon, a Korean-American woman bitten by the same spider that bit Peter Parker, as she escapes imprisonment and searches for her missing family on her way to becoming the superhero known as Silk. As to why the series has been scrapped, that’s unknown, but Deadline believes the lengthy development period didn’t do it any favours.

5 Characters We Could See In Prime Video's Spider-Man Noir - Main Image
MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video recently announced a new live-action adaptation of Spider-Man Noir. In addition to Nicolas Cage's portrayal of the alternate version of Spider-Man, several other characters could appear in the Noir series.
Set in 1930s New York City, fans are about to see a different Spider-Man in Noir. Compared to the usual bright red-and-blue Spider suit, Spider-Noir wears an all-black ensemble to tell a darker tale of the famous Wall Crawler.
But instead of using webs and sticking to the walls, he will be a gun-toting vigilante who prefers to parkour. In the place of supervillains, he will be fighting against corrupt politicians, crooked cops, and gangsters in his hometown of New York City.
So, here are the five characters we could see in Prime Video’s upcoming Spider-Man Noir.

Adam Scott might have the most thankless part in Madame Web. He exists simply to share the screen with a listless Dakota Johnson and trade expository dialogue about how her character Cassie Webb doesn’t like children or anything related to family—obnoxious signposts to give the movie something like a character arc. Cast to bring the good will he earned playing wholesome snarks in Party Down and Parks and Recreation, Scott delivers his lines with a wry reserve that feels like resignation.
And yet, Scott’s mere presence in the film gives Madame Web an important quality lacking in all of Spider-Man’s MCU appearances. Because Scott isn’t playing any guy who shows way too much concern for his co-worker’s disinterest in being a mother; he’s playing Ben Parker, beloved and ill-fated uncle to Peter Parker.

The idea of bringing back a beloved '90s cartoon like "X-Men: The Animated Series" after 30 years sounds quite like a cash grab meant to exploit nostalgic grown-up fans, but it quickly became clear "X-Men '97" was more than the nostalgia-bait the premiere led us to believe.
Indeed, this is a thoughtful follow-up to the already exquisite '90s show, one that takes advantage of the streaming era's embrace of serialization and grittier stories to deliver a bleak yet still hopeful story about loss, grief, and family. The turning point came during the Genosha genocide episode, which made the story and the characters lose their innocence and open their eyes to the reality of their world. This is a season of television that has delivered some poignant character drama and some thrilling superheroics, all while telling a story with big consequences for mutantkind, but also the larger Marvel universe. Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man franchise did not live up to the expectations of Sony which propelled the scrapping of the potential third installment. Recently, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone starrer The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hit the theaters again but the collection of the rerelease was not impressive.
Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield in The Amazing Spider-Man 2
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has picked up rather an odd record, the movie’s rerelease has put it in the spot of lowest opening from any Spider-Man rerelease so far. The Marc Webb-directed movie claimed $709 million at the box office as per The Numbers. The feat was impressive but considering the huge budget of over $200 million and marketing costs the movie needed a little more to extend into another movie.

When we think about Sam Raimi, naturally the first films that come to mind are The Evil Dead Series or Tobey Maguire’s Spiderman Trilogy — however, there is a much lesser known Raimi movie that deserves as much if not more hype than some of his most celebrated projects and that is The Quick and The Dead. It is an often overlooked western from the ‘90s that tries to reinvent the genre in a new light. The film not only boasts a stacked cast but also has that stylistic wow factor innate to all Sam Raimi movies, separating it from

The team behind “Challengers” have already had a game, set, match for being a definitive film of 2024. Yet its trio of actors, including Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist, seem to have no plans on taking a breather. O’Connor’s even ready to team up with director Luca Guadagnino once again.
Sure, the ending of “Challengers” might be considered ambiguous, with Zendaya even going so far as to say the final scene was “confusing” in an interview with the New York Times. What is as clear as Patrick (O’Connor) telegraphing his extramarital tryst with Tashi (Zendaya) to her husband Art (Faist) is where these buzzy stars are heading to next.
Zendaya has proven to be a box office selling point, successfully cementing her lead star status for the big screen with “Challengers” becoming director Luca Guadagnino’s highest opening film to date, surpassing Timothée Chalamet-led “Call Me By Your Name.

More than a year ago we learned that Amazon is set to produce a live-action series centered around Spider-Man Noir, a superhero set in 1930s New York City. Unlike the traditional Spider-Man story, this series will focus on an older, more weathered character, quite different from Peter Parker. Developed by Oren Uziel, the show will have its own path within the Marvel universe, with Uziel serving as both writer and executive producer.
The project so far involves notable names from the industry, including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Uziel, known for his work on films such as ’22 Jump Street’ and the 2021 Mortal Kombat,’ brings his talents to the table. This series was just one more in line with Amazon’s Marvel character-driven projects, alongside ‘Silk: Spider Society.’

Put on your fedora and lightly billowing cloak, and listen to what those Spidey-senses are telling you: could it possibly be true? Are we really getting a live-action adaptation of Spider-Man Noir, with none other than Nicolas Cage stepping up to solve early 20th Century mysteries with bonus Spider-powers? Somehow, we’ve ended up in the timeline where this is, in fact, real. Prime Video is stepping up to produce Noir, a live-action Spider-Man Noir series – and Cage is officially taking on the role.

He is forced to undertake one final, perilous mission while being pursued by an assassin even more lethal.
Pic is executive produced by Kirk Shaw. BondIt Media Capital is financing with Matthew Helderman, Luke Taylor and Jordan Nott also executive producing.
“I’m excited that we have signed the superbly talented actors James, Suki and Tommy Lee to bring The Razor’s Edge to the big screen. I don’t know if Marvel thinks they are being cute or creative, but the constant announcements about the “name changes” to the upcoming Agatha Harkness Marvel show on Disney+ are getting old. Frankly, it’s been so long that I don’t know if people even care that much anymore.
**Edit** Well it’s called “Agatha All Along” nowaccording to Disney’s upfront today. My husband joked that would be the title for a while now.
In 2021, Marvel revealed that the show would be called “Agatha: House of Harkness.” Then, in 2022, the name was changed to “Agatha: Coven of Chaos,” and a few months later, it was announced to be “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries.” Today, Marvel announced yet another title, “Agatha: The Lying Witch With Great Wardrobe.” Then, they deleted it.
Most fans think the show will just be called “Agatha” and these are the episode titles, which sounds very probable.

Kj Dell’Antonia’s best-selling 2020 novel The Chicken Sisters is being adapted into a new original TV series at Hallmark Channel, TVLine has learned.
A family drama with southern charm and romance, the eight-episode Chicken Sisters series is set in the fictional town of Merinac, “where a generations-old rift between dueling fried chicken restaurants — Mimi’s and Frannie’s — has left the founders’ families fractured and the locals taking sides,” reads its official description. “When popular cooking competition show Kitchen Clash comes to town, this could be the recipe for ending this feud once and for all. But things are fixing...

The console wars of this generation has seemingly rested on the winning side of Sony thus far. With Aaa exclusives like Spider-Man, The Last of Us, and even Square Enix’s 2023 venture, Final Fantasy 16. But if this month has taught us anything, it’s that the gaming industry is now turning more volatile than ever. With studio closures and even many games seeing the door, gamers aren’t even cautiously optimistic anymore.
Final Fantasy 16
Which might be the case now for Sony’s fanboys as well. When a big name like Square Enix says they’re going multi-platform, it’s bound to raise eyebrows. What may be PlayStation’s loss could just be Xbox’s, nay, the gaming community’s win.
Square Enix just parachuted out of Sony’s tower
Labelled a new strategy, Square Enix is looking to shift from quantity to quality, as is obvious from their recent Consolidated Financial Results.

John Leguizamo is by far one of the most recognizable Latino names in Hollywood, and the actor frequently comments and speaks up when he sees injustice being done, not only to him but to his co-stars and actors as well. Especially when it comes to the portrayal of Latinos in Hollywood and the issues of ethnic representation.
But, before he was known for that, Leguizamo was known for taking part in some of the biggest franchises in the industry. He gained widespread recognition for his roles in films such as ‘Carlito’s Way,’ ‘To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar,’ ‘Romeo + Juliet,’ the ‘Ice Age’ franchise, ‘The Kick-Ass’ franchise, and even the ‘John Wick’ franchise. But did you know that Leguizamo also almost played the Vulture in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’?

In the early 2000s, following the success of the X-Men franchise kick-off, new ones started to brew up. Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man starring Tobey Maguire and Mark Steven Johnson’s Daredevil starring Ben Affleck came forth as the front-runners releasing within a gap of about a year with the former coming out first. However, the iconic stint by the web-slinging superhero left a lasting impression on fans and became such a massive success that it almost ruined the outing of the vigilante from Hell’s Kitchen.

Regardless, of the early days of comic book movie production, the 2003 Daredevil film packed a punch and captured many’s imaginations. Additionally, it drew substantial praise for maintaining a significant level of comic accuracy with the character’s logo and the iconic horns on his mask being featured prominently. In the world of comic book movies, there has never been a stranger relationship than the one between Jon Watts and Spider-Man. One of the most critically as well as commercially favored and strongest IPs of Marvel Comics, Spider-Man’s entry into the MCU was placed in the hands of a creator with the strangest IMDb credits under his directorial section.
Known for directing music videos, shorts, a claymation movie, and television series, Watts couldn’t have been placed at a more substantial position and with a more high-risk, high-reward IP than directing Spider-Man’s first debut under the Marvel banner after the controversial 12-year-long saga at Sony.
