Man With a clipboard
boblipton10 October 2002
Shot by Billy Bitzer, who would become D.W. Griffith's cameraman. There's nothing much to this picture, as a man with a clipboard wanders around a large industrial-looking item, peers at it, and makes marks on a clipboard. Good composition can't quite save it from being little more than an animated photograph. The industrial steam at the left gives it a slightly hellish look.

Assembling and Testing Turbines (1904)

During the early 1900's Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Company made a number of industrial films that allowed the public to see what went on inside their buildings. Needless to say, these films didn't contain any sort of plot but some might find them interesting.

This here is another pretty boring film from the series. The problem with a lot of these is that they drag on for three or four minutes and we usually don't see very much. Once again the camera stays in position (which was normal for the time) and we look at the large machine as a guy walks around it writing something on a piece of paper. Had this lasted a minute then it would have been more entertaining but it just drags on to the point where most people will be hitting the stop button before it's even over.
