Rule Britannia!

I saw a previous reviewer call this a "boring short"; and even unfavorably compared it the American made Travel Talks series. I could not possibly disagree more with that view point. To my thinking this is actually much better then the coverage given England by the Travel Talks series. While that reviewer for found the commentary boring; I found it be much more informative that the Travel Talks offering. Probably because this was done by Brit's they hit area's and jobs in England that the American series didn't cover at all. Perhaps the narrators accent bothered that reviewer. I saw parts of England I had never seen before; and saw people doing jobs never usually covered in the typical travelogue. It was a lot of fun to see how people were living in the agricultural area's of England so soon after the war. Actually we can't be sure the war is over; since no dates are given; but nothing shown seems to show a country on a war footing. Considering when this was shot; it is amazing to see how well the British came through that horrible war, that so punished this island. All and all a nice change from the usual British travel film.

Boring Short

There'll Always Be an England (1945)

** (out of 4)

British short takes a look at various famous sites in England including the cottage where poet John Milton finished "Paradise Lost", St. Giles, the place Benjamin Disraeli broke into politics and Aylesbury. I guess you could call this a British version of TravelTalks, the popular MGM series but this movie here is just pure boredom from start to finish. This thing runs twice the length of a normal TravelTalks entry and yet I really didn't learn much. We see various places yet the boring narration just makes the locations seem dull, which isn't a good thing since this type of documentary is basically just a travelogue. Some of the scenery is quite nice but there's very little else here I got worked up over.
