A sweet and vicious metaphor on violence
alexaarsenault3 March 2003
What an incredible film, especially during these days! In just 4 minutes, writer-director Philip Farha uses wit and the power of metaphor to touch on such a difficult topic. It's like he makes us laugh but lets us choke at the same time. It's hard to describe, but I think I've rarely seen a film that accomplishes so much with so little. A real gem of a movie. While it was shot a few years ago, it creepily lives up to this new war era with a delicate balance of saccharine sweetness and a sharp knife in your stomach.

really clever use of music also -"Peter and the Wolf." I think the film is on atomfilms or something like that but I actually couldn't find it there. Maybe because it's too old. I think he's doing a feature now and I can't wait to see what that's about. I hear it's sci-fi.

A glimpse behind the mask of evil

The old man - he might be Mephisto in disguise - and the young eager boy, whose innocent pleasure turns into burning hate. In a few moments this short movie tells the old story how violence is born: it is by being frustrated and handing over this frustration to the next person. The selection of the actors, i.e. the old man with his sardonic and at the same time sad face and the young boy was excellent!

incredibly poignant and moving

This film just screened at a festival in Montreal where I saw it. It was very short, over almost in a seconde, but it left the audience with a really strange feeling. It was weird, because it was very funny and sweet and I knew what was coming, but at the same time, there was this strange undercurrent that was very powerful. kept me thinking the whole evening. very cool.
