good attempt to challenge the dross in the traditional culture
zzmale18 March 2004
The literal translation of the title of this movie is: Three Modern Female Stars.

This movie in the early era of Chinese film industry challenged the thousands year long dross in the traditional Confucius teaching: the discrimination against performers/entertainers. In the traditional Confucian teaching, the status of professions such as performing and entertaining are similar to the adult movie industry in the current society, the actors and actresses may be famous and earns big bucks, but they are looked down on by the rest of the society. The discrimination against performers and entertainers in the traditional Confucius teaching, however, was totally unfounded because these professions are not controversial like the adult movie industry. This movie showed the early attempts of the struggle to fight the discrimination against performers and entertainers.
