The final episode of The Scales of Justice series and it's tepid.
Paula is young housewife who has fallen behind her credit payments for a fur coat she has bought.
It's obvious that the slimy debt collector Andrews has taken a shine to Paula. He even offers her to lend her some money.
Although Paula can't help herself by buying new clothes for herself and her daughter. Her husband chastises her as he his struggling financially.
Paula resolves to settle the debt by selling a valuable piece of jewellery.
Andrews is surprised that Paula pays the whole debt off. Later he forces himself on Paula who kills him.
There was no Payment in Kind in this story at all. Andrews offered to give Paula a lift and then attempted to rape her.
It was very much a case of self defence and the courtroom scene is brief. Edgar Lustgarten goes on to tell the viewers that Paula was found not guilty.
It really is a pointless story. No wonder the series finished after 13 episodes.
Derrick Sherwin who played Andrews later became a script editor and producer on Doctor Who.
