Aptly Named - On-Camera Host Matched up Strangers on streets of NYC
jbelkin80016 September 2004
Extremely low budget effort. Actor Ricky Paull Goldin simply walked around the streets of NYC asking people if someone else on the street caught their eye and he would go do the asking if they wanted to hook up. In the episode I saw (and I would find it hard to believe the broadcasted more), the people who instantly consented were either really dull or just plain strange (and not in a good way - more like a weird, creepy way) - it looks like it was shot on hi8 and the restaurant scenes are basically shadows moving about. The show is intercut with comments about dating and dating stories - while we are awash in reality series these days, this was simply too cheap and too dull to have really made any impact - one lesson learned on some of those dating shows today is two un-photogenic people on a date is frankly not all that interesting so it needs to be spiced up with "pop-up" humor or challenges.
