The theater visit that never happened Warning: Spoilers
Oh well.. hopefully it did happen the day after. This is another 20-minute black-and-white short film starring Liesl Karlstadt and Karl Valentin, Germany's most successful comedy duo from the 1930s. Here they play an elderly couple and I quite liked the makeup on the 2 this time, especially on Karlstadt. She plays a female character this time and if you are a bit familiar with her other roles, you will know that this is not always the case. However, I have to say, this is not my favorite work of theirs. This would still be the orchestra short movie. In "Der Thaterbesuch", there aren't that many funny scenes. The letter to their son is pretty decent and the ending twist is good too, although it could obviously have been expected that something in the grand scheme is wrong too so that they will not even go to see the play. But hey, lucky for them the play takes place the next day and not the previous. It's not a bad short film by any means, but all in all, I did hope for more.
