Decent movie. Climax could have been better. Great music. Contains spoilers.

Warning: Spoilers
This movie bears some similarities with Sigappu Rojakkal. Bad childhood memories. Hero hates women, particularly the ones who are easy going, in this case prostitutes. Falling for a woman who changes perspective about the women. Story goes like this. Prathap's dad is behind a woman and ignores his legally wedded wife even when she is badly ill. Prathap sees all of that and develops hatred for women, particularly prostitutes. Prathap is very attached to his mother and wants to seek a revenge on injustice done to her. So he starts preying on prostitutes. Shoba is engaged with her boyfriend. The guy's dad is a police officer and a family friend of Prathap. Once Prathap proposes to Shobha. But, she rejects it saying that she is engaged with someone. Prathap continues murdering prostitutes. Mohan appears in the movie in a guest role. That was still early days for Mohan's movie career. Shoba's friend is supposed to arrive at her place in Bangalore and is tricked by a female pimp and is forced into prostitution. One day, Shoba's friend is also killed by Prathap. Prathap in a desperate ploy to win Shobha's heart, kidnaps her to Ooty where he has bought a new home. There he makes her stay for a week and see if she likes him. Meanwhile, Shoba's would be father in law and friend of Prathap grows suspicious and zeros in on Prathap. Learning his whereabouts, he goes to Ooty. Shoba tries to escape from Prathap and in the climax goes to a place where Prathap's mother is supposedly bedridden. That part is somewhat similar to Hitchcok's Psycho. The movie for most part is realistic. Climax could have been better. It clearly lacked the punch. At times, Prathap's action is weird. But, then he is not exactly fit mentally in this movie. The background score of Ilayaraja is just awesome. There are 2/3 songs in the movie. One of them is an all time classic. Other two are pretty good as well.

Psychological thriller .

Pratap has a traumatic childhood . He goes on killing prostitutes . He is in love with Shoba who refuses to marry him as she is engaged to some one else . He kidnaps her and holds her hostage in his Ooty bungalow ( what locales , what weather , what photography ... ) . Her people come and rescue her in the end . The main cast has acted beautifully . Mohan plays a small role as a photographer . He shines even then . Pratap has the eyes and mannerisms of an awkward weird person from first scene itself . I had seen this in theatres long long time back and recently watched it onyoutube a few more times.

Classic phsyco thriller

Storyline is identical to Sigapurojakal which was released 2 years before this but what made this movie a special one is the way it was directed and shot by Balumahendra. Prathap pothan and shobas performance was outstanding, Mastreos music was commendable. This will be one of the best in Tamil thriller calssics.

Classiest Tamil film of ALL TIME
udayright2 April 2020
The film was absolutely class,it can even be compared to the best of those times(early 1980's),Balu Mahendra cinematography took to a different level, Ilayaraja's Background score and songs where sheer world class, ofcourse he was on top of the world with his innovative music and also being his 100th film,The film surely reminds of Hitchcock's 'psycho',as Balu Mahendra said it's a small dedication to the master film maker,As the performance of the lead actors was brilliant, the credit goes to the director Balu Mahendra...It would have been great if both the director and the music director did some similar movies... because we would have enjoyed even after 40 years like this

IDK How to say the impact of film made me to write here... Intense, abnormal, aesthetic, powerpacked story inbounded with screenplay and crew with worth efficient musical of maestro... Other than the critics and spoilers some of the valuable aspects of this movie was quite intresting... people who live in the world are like normal ones like their views,thoughts... but here a psychopath's view is quite intended... Every person who deserves a learning should compulsorily watch this... No words to Built Up... Completely Balu Mahendra a Forever living legend...
