Nick notices that Daniel has something on his mind but Daniel wont be drawn. Later that morning Daniel tries to catch Vivien but is foiled by Michelle intent on teasing Vivien about a big bouquet of flowers that arrives from Lionel. When Daniel finally gets his chance he is relieved when Vivien agrees that each of their private dinner plans should remain private though she was surprised at the age of his date?! Daniel quickly covers and explains that she was an acquaintance from Gamblers Anonymous he was trying to help cheer her up. To Daniels relief Vivien is satisfied with his explanation. When Daniel next bumps into Nick he is now in a surprisingly good mood, which doesnt go unnoticed.
Jimmi arrives at the hospital to see Eva and Lionel reports that although she lost a lot of blood, hes happy with her progress. Eva though is clearly not emotionally fine. Jimmi tries to be encouraging, she has every chance of conceiving in the future she has to have hope. Eva simply doesnt. The stress sends Jimmi to the bathroom to wash his hands in an OCD fashion as hes exiting he bumps into Lionel. Jimmi asks him if he could keep Evas situation secret from Vivien he knows theyre dating.
Lionel assures him that he takes patient confidentiality very seriously and seeing that Jimmi looks stressed, he asks if hes got time for a quick chat. But to Jimmis relief Lionel is paged and has to rush off before he is committed. Jimmi is later sat alone in a corridor when Archie spots him as he drops off some blood samples. Jimmi finds himself opening up to Archie, who tries to be encouraging and hes also worried about Jimmi he has feelings in all of this too. Jimmi thanks him but is really most concerned about Eva he returns to her bedside to try and talk to her again. But Eva is cold, theres nothing he can say to make this better, theres no way he can understand. Jimmi is left totally crushed.
Meanwhile, Mill Health Centre Accountant, Simon Adamson (69) waits with his wife Isabella Adamson (67) to see her Cardiologist. Simon is fretting that hes going to be late for his meeting with Julia and rushes off to call her. At the Mill Julia puts down the phone and discusses with Vivien the Adamson situation. Poor Simon is worrying about his wifes heart condition and also the Mills tax returns. As they leave the hospital, Simon practically flies with Isabella in her wheelchair, out of the door.
Julia arrives at the Adamsons lovely big old house, she doesnt see the Adamson car but is disturbed to find a broken glass panel and an open door. Hesitantly she enters and is shocked when a hooded figure rushes past her carrying a small rucksack. Julia is finishing her call to the Police when the Adamsons return. They are horrified to discover theyve had a break-in and as Julia comforts Isabella, Simon goes in to check the house is safe. Isabella comments to Julia that theyve had trouble with a new window cleaner called Tony who was lazy and did a bad job could it have been him? Inside they are relieved to discover that not much has been stolen, but then Isabella notices that a painting given to her grandmother has gone it held sentimental value as well as being worth a lot of money. Simon comforts and promises that theyll get it back.
As Julia leaves she tells Simon to try and get some rest when the Carer arrives. She also offers to ask Joe to pop over to check on Isabella. Back at the Mill Julia discusses the situation with Joe and realises that the Adamsons must have been targeted for the painting. Meanwhile Isabella and Simon discuss possible involvement by the window cleaner, Simon doesnt believe it was him but Isabella pleads with him to just tell the Police she just wants the painting back, she doesnt care about anything else not even the house. Later that afternoon Julia is curious when Tony Ward (19) a window cleaner, comes in with broken glass in his hand.
At the Adamsons, Joe is saying goodbye to Simon and is sad to hear that the Consultant has only given Isabella a year to live at most, but she could even go in the next week. Simon again talks about how important the house is for to end her days in. Joe is concerned about Simon also he looks exhausted, though he wont admit it. As Tony heads out after seeing Michelle, Julia confronts him how did he manage to mess up such a simple break-in? She offers him one last chance to return the painting which carries only sentimental value. Tony is clearly the culprit and yet seems genuinely surprised to hear mention of a painting he pushes past her and exits.
Back at the house Simon finds Isabella about to call the Police and gently takes the phone off her she cant accuse Tony without evidence. Isabella is suspicious theres something hes not telling her. Suddenly Simon has a funny turn and Isabella is instantly concerned has he called the Care Agency again? When are they sending someone over? Simon doesnt know but promises to lie down for a bit himself as she insists that shes fine. When Joe returns to the Mill he talks to Julia about his concerns for Simon he doesnt understand why theyve cancelled the Care Agency as they cant be short of money. Julia confirms that they even inherited the house and the stolen painting is worth £80,000. Joe casually comments maybe the insurance has bankrupted them?
At the house, Simon is becoming increasingly stressed. As he flicks through a pile of unpaid bills he listens to a message from the Care Agency reminding him about his overdue account. Time later Julia arrives at the house and is greeted by Isabella she doesnt know where Simon has got to and so Julia goes to find him. In the garden she finds him with Tony. They have been arguing about the burglary and it becomes clear that Simon had paid Tony to stage a break in. But now Tony knows about the missing painting, suspecting an insurance scam, he wants more money. Simon is close to breaking point and refuses, Tony can call the Police if he wants to he doesnt care anymore! Realising he wont win Tony runs off, leaving Simon to face Julia.
Back in the house, relieved to get everything off his chest, Simon confesses everything to Julia. He lost all of their savings when the stock market crashed and so all they have left is the house. Care Agency and household bills have been stacking up and he was desperate. He realised today that he couldnt go through with the insurance claim but he doesnt know how to tell Isabella. Isabella tells Simon off for being a stubborn fool she doesnt care about the house, shes dying and just wants to spend her final days with him she even wants him to retire. Before she leaves, Simon promises Julia that hell call the Police and report the picture found.
