Yawn...

Sally & Angela is a story of two low budget Italian assassins on their way to a hit. The combination of a brother, a sister and many dim-witted choices far out way their bad luck. The short film begins ruff and slow. The cinematography is good, costumes were fine, most of the time the acting was all right, audio trek was needed better transitions but the storyline could have been preformed in less than four minutes. The writer and director, Mr. Mark Wilkinson probably got his start writing for a reality television program turning a ten minutes story into a two-hour program.

Annunziata Gianzero plays Angela a convincing Italian assassin. I am surprised she has not done anything besides this and Dischord (2001). Terrance J. Rotolo plays Sally. I was surprised he has been in, A Gothic Romance (2004), La Femme Musketeer (2003), Special Forces (2003), The Bacchae (2002) after his `Okay' performance in this production.

One of the most distracting aspects of Sally & Angela is, not the fact that within the same scene the sun changes position all over the sky, not the fact that after filling the car with bullet holes it starts, not the fact that Angela can shoot the trunk open with a 12gage shotgun without exploding and note even the fact that every five seconds the sky changes from cloudy to clear it is, when was the last time you knew of an Italian mob family operating in or around an Arizona desert? Don't even say Vegas baby!

An awful film!!!!
filmer1110 September 2002
Warning: Spoilers
This was an awful film!!!!! The dialogue was awful...cliche after cliche, with bad acting to boot. It had two people with brooklyn accents riding through the desert! Why? Why? You answer none of the questions that your obvious set up asks. There was no story, just a vignette...a bad one at that. And toooooo long. You had maybe 5 minutes of movie there....not 12. The first minute and a half of this 12 minute film is wasted with a shot that doesn't make any narrative or visual sense. You slowly bring us up to the object of focus, only to show it to us for a few seconds and then take us away again just as slowly as we came up to it. Why? What does this tell us? How does this open a movie? How does this move a story? Does your DP understand how to use a camera to convey story? Guess not. All that long shot did was feature your soundtrack, which you really don't want to do in a short film. You want to grab the audience with something interesting. Time to ask for a refund from film school. This filmmaker obviously does not know how to use the short film medium effectively and succinctly. The intended jokes were not funny at all. Just a bunch of regurgitated mobster movie jokes that were ripped off very very poorly. Not funny at all. The premise of brother and sister trying to kill each other with guns over little things is ok but executed very poorly. Why do they always try to kill each other? This is so stupid. If they were any good at what they do they would both be dead by now. But I guess that's the punchline to your joke. Too bad you missed the set up. on the up side...its kinda cool that you shot up a Cadillac. I wonder how much $$$ you wasted on that? Maybe you should have bought a script. Its really a shame you wasted the money to make this film. Even with the favors you called in and deals i'm sure you recieved, why didn't you spend more time actually writing a script? This is a prime example of modern, film school grauate short films. People who have very little narrative talent try to take a very very thin concept, spend 5 minutes on an even thinner screenplay, and throw a lot of money and production value at it, and hope they have a film...well I'm sorry but you missed. It takes more than that to get noticed in Hollywood. Story is King. Back to school for you.

Everything is there except the story ...

Really well produced ... So the filmmaker should receive kudos for that. Just pulling off something that looked as polished as this is a miracle in of itself. Acting was good. Directing was good. Just felt the story was tired and didn't really offer me anything I haven't seen before. The characters were cliche, I hate to say.

Fun but forgettable. That's it in a nutshell. I'd like to see what this filmmaker could do with a great script. Obviously some talent there ... I'd like to see him do something INSPIRED.
