“Shameless” actress Emmy Rossum isn’t taking any antisemitic abuse from a Donald Trump-supporting troll. The “Day After Tomorrow” star shared Sunday that she’s been getting threatening tweets from at least one sick individual, telling her, “This is in all of your ilk’s future, you will all be seeing a train shortly.” The person capped it off with “Sieg Hiel,” a Nazi salute reference. The Manhattan-born Rossum’s mother is of Russian Jewish descent. Below is a screenshot of that particularly disgusting use of social media. The Twitter user’s account has since been suspended. The teaming of Tom Cruise and writer/director Christopher McQuarrie has gone from strength to strength so far resulting in the recent highly regarded "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" along with two of the more underrated studio films of recent years - the Lee Child novel adaptation "Jack Reacher" and the Doug Liman-directed sci-fi time loop manga adaptation "Edge of Tomorrow".
The other week Cruise suggested he had an idea in place for a sequel to "Edge of Tomorrow," one of the few studio films of recent years that is seemingly self-contained and thus doesn't really require one. Today, in a long interview with Uproxx, McQuarrie said it's still early stages right now:
"It all comes down to Warner Bros. and Doug Liman and Emily Blunt saying yes. The idea is there. At worst, it's the kernel of an idea - which is, on one hand, great, but on the other hand,...

Taking care of some media duties, Jake Gyllenhaal showed up at the “Nightcrawler” Luncheon Celebrating his Golden Globe & SAG nominations in Brentwood on Monday (January 12).
The “Day After Tomorrow” hunk was in good spirits has he posed for photos with actress Rene Russo and director Dan Gilroy at the DeLeon Tequila-sponsored event.
Meanwhile, it seems Jake ran into his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift at a few Golden Globes afterparties on Sunday night (January 11) and she couldn’t quite shake it off. An insider told press, “She wasn’t dancing, but I saw her grab her friend’s hand and repeat, ‘We have to go. We have to go.’”
From there, Swifty supposedly had a breakdown in the bathroom and had to be comforted by gal pals Dakota Johnson and Cara Delevingne.

South Park is about to begin its 18th season in the UK, and despite nearly two decades of episodes, it doesn't show any sign of getting 'lame', as Cartman might say.
Unlike other rival shows, Trey Parker and Matt Stone's cartoon has got better with age, and continues to push boundaries and stay relevant.
To celebrate its return, we have chosen our personal favourite 25 from its first 247 episodes.
25. Woodland Critter Christmas - Season 8
A thoroughly bizarre but memorable episode, in which Stan finds himself in the middle of the woods with a bunch of seemingly cute woodland animals. With an irritating voiceover narrating his every move, the critters turn out to be the most evil creatures known to man. Things are pretty f**ked right here, as he would say. Eventually, it is revealed that Cartman is the creator of such an awful story, and it's all just so...

Believe it or not kids, there was once a time when Amanda Seyfried and Rachel McAdams were largely unknown actresses with second billing to Lindsay Lohan, who was considered the most promising star of her generation, when Tom Cruise could star in a movie without Scientology and Oprahgate entering the discussion and when an M. Night Shyamalan film was something to look forward to. If I said that 2004 was the most important summer in filmdom I’d be biased, because that was the first time I started to treat the critical viewing of films as a serious pursuit, so if I said that the films that came out that summer — Anchorman, Shrek 2, and Mean Girls -- were like nothing I’d ever seen before, that’s accurate in a way, as I was paying attention to films in a way I hadn’t before. Still, 2004 was an unforgettable summer (if you don’t count the forgettable...

It’s not sci-fi, it’s “cli fi.” Also known as climate fiction, it’s an emerging genre that film directors have been exploring recently. Now the genre is about to get red hot, post-Super Typhoon Haiyan (or “sea sparrow” when translated to English). Hollywood crews often go to Iceland to film climate disaster movies on location, for TV specials or what later turns out to be blockbuster feature movies. Expect more location shoots there in future years, as the world heats up in tiny increments and the polar ice caps melt summer after summer. Drip, drip, drip. But this...

The trailer for Darren Aronofsky‘s Noah has arrived, bringing with it Russell Crowe, Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly, and two of every creature on the Earth. But not all those other people panicking on land — screw them. It’s the story, of course, of the age-old biblical tale of Noah’s ark; in the Old Testament, God decides that he’s had enough with the world and its people’s sinning ways, so he calls upon Noah with a very specific task — build a massive ark big enough to fit himself, his family and two of every animal. All those outside the boat will be washed away with the sins of the world by a devastating, unfathomable flood. Needless to say, Aronofsky’s vision of the Great Flood is a crashing, gargantuan force that makes that wave that swallowed the Statue of Liberty in the Day After Tomorrow look like some prime surfing territory. It was already clear Roland Emmerich was interested in bringing Stargate back to the big screen, ignoring nearly 20 seasons of television. But apparently the producer is interested in forgetting all about his 1994 film that started it all as well. "We went to MGM, who has the rights, and proposed to them to do a sequel, but as a reboot," Emmerich recently told Digital Spy. "Pretty soon we'll have to look for a writer and start." That does suggest that Emmerich himself would not craft the reboot trilogy himself. Emmerich, who would go on to do films like "2012" and "Day After Tomorrow," said he abandoned ideas of continuing the original "Stargate" movie from 1994 because 20 years of time have really changed stars Kurt Russell and James Spader. Spader will star in a new series, ...

"White House Down" earned a disappointing $24.8 million during its opening weekend (less, as it turns out, than "Battleship" did after its debut), and now conservative pundits are cheering the film's failure as a victory.
"In the eyes of Hollywood, the military is an all-white, all-male organization so dedicated to unfocused imperialism that it is willing to commit mass murder of fellow Americans for the chance to die in some Middle East hellhole," wrote Townhall.com columnist Kurt Schlichter about the plot of "White House Down," which finds the president (played by Jamie Foxx) under literal siege after a group of old, white conservative politicians become unhappy with his decision to withdraw troops from the Middle East. "Who needs to risk getting a mouthful of fist by spitting on our soldiers in-person when you can do it safely from on-screen? If you spend one damn cent on this crap, you’re spitting on our troops too.

"Who needs to risk getting a mouthful of fist by spitting on our soldiers in-person when you can do it safely from on-screen? If you spend one damn cent on this crap, you’re spitting on our troops too.

Roland Emmerich, following White House Down, will be returning to science fiction. He bought a pitch from writer Nic Kelman entitled Emergence, which is described as a “large scale contemporary science fiction film.” So, most sci-fi films.
It’s been described as an alien invasion story “containing hot-button science elements” much like Emmerich’s Day After Tomorrow. Emmerich is known for 2012 and Independence Day, and delivering big hits globally, if not critically loved ones. We’ll see if Emergence can buck the trend.

Stepping out for a swanky evening, Jake Gyllenhaal headed over to the 28th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards in New York City last night (May 5).
The “Day After Tomorrow” hunk showed up at the Nyu Skirball Center with a scruffy beard and dark suit as he greeted fellow attendees and posed for photos.
In related news, Gyllenhaal signed on to narrate the new audiobook version of “The Great Gatsby” to accompany the upcoming film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan.
An editor over at Audible recent sang Jake’s praises- , "Gyllenhaal treats it with the utmost respect, allowing the vivid descriptions of mansions, landmarks, and 1920s New York to flow at just the right pace."...

"Something big was leftover." Get it? No? You will.
There have been plenty of cautionary "Don't Play God" sci-fi tales, but the "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" movies are unique in their argument of "Don't Play Master Chef." If you're destined to live only on sardines, so be it; trying to change your situation can only result in foodstuff super-storms and, now, an island that would make Dr. Moreau himself quake in his boots (or sandals ... or sun hat ... or whatever it was that Marlon Brando was wearing whilst Val Kilmer hosted animal-people orgies).
If you remember from the first movie (and how could you forget that gloriously crazy thing?), young inventor Phil Lockwood (Bill Hader) created the Fldsmdfr, a device that turned water into various foods and led to a "Day After Tomorrow" kind of scenario involving a lot of spaghetti and meatballs instead of snow and CGI wolves.

Emmy Rossum has a crush on Britain's Prince Harry. The 'Day After Tomorrow' actress admits she's always had a 'thing' for the third-in-line to the throne and after dreaming about marrying a 'fairy tale' prince when she grew up, Emily has expressed her interest in going out on a date with the 'boisterous' and handsome royal. Speaking to Live! magazine, Emily gushed: 'I've always had a bit of a thing for Prince Harry. Growing up I used to pretend I was married to him in an alternate universe. Like any other seven year old I had a fairy tale notion of growing up and marrying a prince. 'I still think he's pretty cute. He's also very...

It sure has been a changeable few months where the weather’s been concerned. April is usually synonymous with brief showers and sunny spells, but May? One minute, brilliant sunshine and the next, a monsoon. At one point, I swear I was on the set of the Day After Tomorrow.
But do not fear, for when the rain keeps on falling and our summer dreams continue to be dashed, there’s only one thing for it – movies. Lots and lots of weather-proof movies. And who better to sponsor a competition of movie-joy than those lovely people at Sunsquare? For when the sun does show its face, their rooflights flood UK homes with lots of natural sunshine.
The Prize: A 3 month LoveFilm Subscription that entitles you to 4 rentals a month and 4 hours of online streaming. So, that’s like, *mental maths* 18 movie rentals… for free! But how do I win? I...

The unsinkable .Titanic. sets sail into theaters once again. This time, writer/director James Cameron remastered and converted the original to 3D format. Marking the 100th anniversary of the ship.s doomed voyage, the Oscar-winning .Titanic. still stands as a great disaster film.
Any film that showcases a catastrophe as its subject with characters attempting to escape or cope with the impending or ongoing disaster belongs in the disaster movie genre. Here.s my list of the Top 10 Disaster Movies of All Time.

My initial impression of this week’s episode of Fringe, “Welcome to Westfield,” was that it looked like a disaster movie. You know, a Day After Tomorrow-type of film that would gross $500 million-plus internationally — except this is Fringe, so I knew the episode would also have a real plot.
And upon further inspection, provided by the exclusive clip below, it’s going to deliver tenfold.
The episode finds Olivia, Peter, and Walter caught in the grips of a terrifying Fringe event when they find themselves unable to escape a mysterious — and dangerous — town. Check out the clip below and...

Roland Emmerich is usually the guy who makes enormous blockbuster movies for Sony-- your 2012, your Day After Tomorrow, etc. But this year his big release for the studio is Anonymous, the Shakesepare-debunking period drama that nobody expected to be huge, but has still only grossed a relatively disappointing $3 million so far. Emmerich was all ready to dust himself up and return to doing what he's famous for, with the $175 million budgeted sci-fi film Singularity. Now that comeback is going to take a bit longer to happen. Variety reports that production on Singularity has been temporarily suspended, as Emmerich and his co-writer Harald Kloser meet with the guy who actually coined the term "singularity" to shape up the script. The film is apparently based on Kurzweil's idea that eventually artificial intelligence and actual humans will merge, and is set 50 years in the future, as a man saves the life of his...

Kurzweil is the man who coined the titular artificial intelligence term, who’ll now join the team for revisions. (The news was first reported by Variety.)

One of the surprises of the season is Roland Emmerich's Anonymous, which opens Friday amid ongoing controversy over its premise: that William Shakespeare did not write his plays and poems, and the Earl of Oxford did. Screenwriter John Orloff has been obsessed with this mystery since his college days; the screenplay served as his ticket of admission to Hollywood. First, Shakespeare in Love put Anonymous on the back burner, to be resurrected decades later by German digital master Emmerich, best known for such action adventures as Day After Tomorrow and 2012. Emmerich helped, for better or for worse, to turn Orloff's identity crisis into a rip-roaring Elizabethan succession drama, with Queen Elizabeth--played by the always riveting Vanessa Redgrave--at the center of dangerous head-lopping court intrigue. ...

While the weather forecast for much of the East Coast looks like a storyboard from Day After Tomorrow thanks to Hurricane Irene, the box office forecast is decidedly more calm. As summer continues to crawl toward Labor Day, three genre films hit theaters, all with the diminished expectations that come with their late August release dates. What movie will you probably ignore this weekend? To the forecast!

Guys, the toppled lawn chair wasn't the only damage caused by yesterday's 5.9 East Coast earthquake. It was practically "Day After Tomorrow" in D.C.
In fact, the historic Washington Monument did suffer some damage. Passengers in an airplane flying over the National Mall spotted a crack near the top of the 555-foot tall stone obelisk. The Park Service has closed the monument for an indefinite period while the damage is repaired.
Also damaged was the Smithsonian Institution, located near the Monument on the Mall. Broken glass and cracks in the building, which is over 150 years old, forced a closure there, too. The Smithsonian Museums, however, remain open to tourists. Public schools have also closed for inspection, extending summer vacation just a bit longer.

New tech startups are moving with the speed and force of tsunamis. And a few crash that way, too. Airbnb is the latest example of how rapid growth demands rapid response to failures. Top Vc Mark Suster tells Fast Company what Airbnb did right--and what it should have done better.
Airbnb, the social accommodations startup, raised $112 million in funding and promptly started long jumping before it even learned to crawl. Just two years since launching, it has listings in 13,000 cities, in 181 countries. Its backers at Andreessen Horovitz want to leap way beyond the competition.
And then came the blog post by one renter, whose apartment had reportedly been badly vandalized and ransacked by an Airbnb guest. The story spread as fast as those about Airbnb's success. It went viral, sparking a Day After Tomorrow-size wave of bad press from outlets such as TechCrunch and The Washington Post. But Airbnb's response to the incident,...

The good times continued to roll for the Wolf Pack in their second outing: The Hangover Part II devoured an estimated $86.5 million over the weekend. Add in its raucous Thursday start, and the comedy sequel's four-day opening came to $118.1 million. Kung Fu Panda 2, on the other hand, fell short of its predecessor, while Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides sprang another leak. Playing on approximately 6,700 screens at 3,615 locations, The Hangover Part II delivered the top-grossing weekend ever for a live-action comedy, and it ranked second to The Matrix Reloaded among R-rated movies. It also had the second-biggest weekend of 2011 so far, edging out Fast Five and shy of On Stranger Tides, but it likely would have been first if it hadn't burnt off some demand with its Thursday opening, which was also its top day ($31.6 million). The first Hangover grossed $45 million in its opening weekend nearly two years...

Although Leterrier’s stock dropped a little after the critical drubbing handed out to Clash of the Titans, he is nonetheless managing to keep himself in work. He has signed to direct “Now You See Me”, which sees a team of illusionists pulling off bank jobs during their performances, all the while trying to evade the FBI. After that, he has signed to direct “G”, based on a concept from producer Guymon Casady.
G will possibly see (rumoured plot points are still a little sketchy) a father trying to find his son in a world where the Earth has stopped spinning and gravity is shutting down.
