Pure Synesthesia
antifilm-119 May 2007
A intense, multi-exposed celluloid delirium about a poor man in fever and a woman taking care of him. The main set is a simple chamber, a bed. Under sound artist Anthony Moore's giddy accordion/sampler score, the soundtrack manages to merge all visual and acoustic layers to a level where realities, fantasies and memories appear to consist of the same matter. It's been almost 2 decades since i've seen »blindman's ball«, but I watched it many times then and still remember voice bits of Portuguese fado legend Amalia; steps on wooden stairs; watering towels to cool down the fever. An extremely synesthetic picture, this. Psychedelic. A great work, too.
