Ed Wood, you're off the hook...

I'm speechless as to just how horrible this film is in every aspect. From the direction to the acting to the script...all far below an amateur effort.

The story content itself is questionable, especially after listening to the filmmaker, whom I had the displeasure of meeting after a screening of this piece of garbage. I'm sorry, i don't usually like to point fingers, but i'm highly suspicious as to whether the parents were mistreating their child or not.

The victim in all of this is the poor child, AJ. One, because he was clearly the victim of some form of mistreatment, and two because his director father has exploited that mistreatment and following controversy to make what amounts to little more than a psychotic hateful rant against the government.

And i've just heard that they have made a sequel to this film?! You can't get much lower than exploiting the poor child a second time, just because you got a few tongues wagging with the first outing.

This film is like giving a camera to serial pest Peter Hore and seeing what he comes up with.

Terrible.

If it sounds like a dud, looks like a dud, it is a dud.

The actors who are upset at the low rating of 2.1 (the worst I have seen) seem to think people didn't understand or thought it was something else.

It is always something else that is the problem, not the screenplay not the directing not the bad acting.

Really, have they never seen anything of quality and said to themselves maybe the public (who are the final arbiter) is right on this one, it sucks!!!

No amount of complaining can make bad directing or acting any better than what it is, perhaps a few acting classes and a better director might help if they get another chance.

Scathing warning to anyone curious

Terrible. Absolute rubbish.

I had the unfortunate displeasure of sitting through this disappointing and pointless endeavour at an actors seminar one evening late 2002. Actually, to call it pointless is somewhat inaccurate, as the point is quite clear, to demonstrate the filmmakers blatant disregard for facts, promote his own selfish interests and to prey on the legitimate fears of uninformed parents or parents to be, all under the guise of the pretense of truth and justice.

Basically, the film is a self-indulgent, bitter and twisted indictment on the mindset and conspiracy theorist nature of Mr Todd (a point proven the minute the director spoke after showing his film). Though it purports to show truths and little known facts, most of the so called details in this pathetic effort are inaccurate, poorly or unresearched, and blatantly designed to incite hatred and in the view of most who saw it, presented itself as a genuine danger to families who may not recognise the falsity in the movie.

Specifically, though it may be a spoiler, the opinions and such put forth on the serious issues of vaccination and parental responsibilites were at best a badly written fiction, and at worst symptomatic of a seriously mentally deficient mind.

Even beyond the story, which honestly had me groaning and I was one of the few who remained to see the entire film (most people present actually left during the showing), the production quality and direction was laughable. I have sat through student films that make you cringe, but this 2 plus hours of drivel was quite honestly the worst piece of film I have ever had to witness.

I lost hours of my life that night that I will never get back, and I will lose hours more retelling this review and the story of how bad the thing actually is.

Trying to Tell the Whole Story...
crobson19 April 2003
Warning: Spoilers
I was introduced to this film through my brother who knows the film-maker. I have followed with interest the film as it has progressed, and wouldn't have lodged a review, if not for what I feel was an unrealistic review submitted previously, by someone who didn't seem to realise the film was a docu-drama.

There has been a smear campaign run against the film maker, his company and the cast who worked with him on this picture, for no better reason than that this film is based on true events which embarrass bureaucrats within the NSW state government.

There are moments in the film that run too long, or that some might feel were not part of the required story, however they all contribute to the total story. In telling the complete story, I think it was the intention of the film maker to provide every chance that the viewer might understand the motivations of characters who otherwise would have appeared to be two dimensional villains.

I would recommend that the film be used not so much to entertain, but to educate people as to how and why they should act, and to teach people to ask themselves how their actions will be interpreted or twisted by other people, even within their own organisation. (Spoiler: As the central theme of the film is the mis-interpretation of one persons actions by another person, who is then exaggerated to another 3rd party)

The film isn't for everyone - I'll grant you that - but it is an incredible eye opener as to how people with the best of intentions can get facts terribly wrong.

I give this film 7 / 10.

Thats not fair

Warning: Spoilers
I am a close and personal friend of everyone of the Todd's. I am an actor in the movie, "Not about AJ". And I will tell you this, In no way whatsoever has AJ ever seen any kind of mistreatment, Something about AJ states a meaning of Government Error, it has nothing to do with mistreatment.

Anyone whom states that AJ has or must have been mistreated has no idea about the matter whatsoever, and needs to keep their mouths closed.

I don't think it was appropriate to say that and i am personally offended that anyone who actually watched the movie could have made the statements i have read.

Reading some of the things i have about your thaughts on this movie, greatly annoys me and makes me wonder what sort of person you are, this family has been through so much and for you to say something of that sort, its terrible.

Get a life.

P.S: If they mistreated AJ, why was her returned to A. & S. todd within 40minuets. Your accusations have no proof backup.

Regards, Matt.
