A highly accurate portrayal of Bundeswehr boot camp and the the situation of women there
woyzeck23 August 2005
This one of my favourite documentaries, because of its accuracy and pace. Unlike other documentaries of the German army's boot camp I've seen, this one goes through the stages of Grundausbildung (German for boot camp) in the correct order and spends the time on each stage it deserves. This one focuses on the hardship of such a training and let us see through the eyes of the people, who have to endure this. Unlike other documentaries, which put their focus on stereotypical questions, like if someone has slept maybe 4 hours in three days, temperature's below freezing point and he has to do marches, combat training, and such, the last thing on his mind will be the question what he thinks about being trained to kill other people! Not so in this documentary, although those kind of question are asked, too, but they are given their respective place and time. I want to mention that this movie is supposed to be about women in the military, but actually the 4 women portrayed could be anybody, male or female, who enters the military without spending a minute to think of what that really means and who isn't fit, mentally and physically, for such an occupation.
