Pretty good

I first saw this movie on the History Channel in 2003. Pretty good detail. Gives good history of how Ice Road trucking started and why. It inspired me to buy the book "Denison's Ice Road" by Edith Iglauer. The book is much better than the film. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book.

Making of the first ice road movie
bill-kruining3 June 2005
I like the movie and the book, but I have made the first movie for John Dennison which was called "Trucking beyond the Fringe" This movie was made under very primitive circumstances in 1960 on 16 mm movie camera (handwind). During this time John was operating with very old equipment and we certainly didn't have ground penetration radar. The discovery movie gives the impression that Robinson was the first person to attempt making of the ice road and doesn't mention John Dennison who was the fist one to make ice roads to Discovery mines and Tundra mines. The following persons helped me with making "Trucking beyond the Fringe' sound Speed Taylor, Narators Bob Johns, Bob Borden.
