Spain’s northern region of Navarre has fortified its position as a hub for the audiovisual industry in recent years and, mirroring trends seen elsewhere in the country, seen particularly strong growth in TV production in the past year, in spite of the current Covid-19 pandemic.
Why is another matter. In 2019, Netflix produced more hours of original productions in Spain (163) than any other country outside the U.S., apart from South Korea (238), according to an Omdia analysis. After starting with non-fiction original production in Spain almost three years ago, Amazon Prime Video is highly active in Spain, acquiring rights to the territory and pushing more recently into fiction production, including two series shot in Navarre this year.
As demand for high-end TV content has spiked, production has been forced out of Madrid and Barcelona soundstages and into other parts of Spain, where diverse natural landscapes, historic architecture, increasingly well-trained crew...

The region of Navarre, in Northern Spain, is fortifying its position as a solidly built hub for the audiovisual industry.
Despite pandemic, film and TV remains growth sectors, showing the early fruits of a building industrial fabric, part of a strategic axis in Navarre’s Plan of Smart Specialization 2030.
Driven by a 40% tax deduction for R&d and tech innovation activities, Navarre started to attract animation and post-production firms in 2015.
Nurtured by a favorable environment, four Navarre-based toon studios have already unveiled the development and production of five new feature films: Apolo Films’ adventure comedy “Dogtanian & The Three Muskehounds,” Dr. Platypus & Wombat’s “Dinogames” and “Hanna y los monstruos,” Demiranda Studios’ stop motion “Ojalá” and The Think Lab’s 3D production “Inspector Sun.”
Also, Navarre has embarked on Emotional Films, maybe its most ambitious R&d project to date. It teams a regional consortium of public and private companies and orgs -taking in Dr.

As coronavirus ravaged Spain in April, the country’s central government took one significant step toward building for a post-covid future. The Covid-19 pandemic has sparked — paradoxically — a new bullishness in Spain’s international production industry.
On May 5, Spain’s government greenlit a critical hike to tax breaks for Spanish and international productions, suddenly and significantly increasing the country’s competitiveness as a film and TV location destination.
Tax rebates for international shoots — and also tax credits for Spanish nationality productions — were increased from 25% to 30% for the first €1 million ($1.1 million) spend in the country and from 20% to 25% thereafter, capping a shoot’s total tax deduction at €10 million ($10.8 million).
In the Canary Islands, the rebate has been set at an extraordinary 50% for the first $1.1 million, and 45% for the rest — the highest rate of deduction in the world.
The new measures, especially the muscular rise in the rebate ceiling, produced a large...

In his latest parody, James Corden spoofs the boy band phenomenon that was so overwhelmingly popular in the 90s and 2000s. A mockumentary, which aired on Thursday on “The Late Late Show,” follows the rise and fall of the (fake) band Thr33way. For this, Corden enlisted some help from comedians Jordan Peele and Nick Kroll. The result is simply hilarious.

“In a time when *Nsync, Backstreet Boys and others dominated the boy band landscape, three mavericks came together to form Thr33way —a boy band that didn’t hide from its sexuality,” reads the description of the clip on the show’s official YouTube channel.
“Boy band music shouldn’t be about kissing you on the cheek, it should be so much more than that,” says Corden on the doc. And Kroll adds,...

If Sri Lanka movies had for many years been mistaken with Bollywood movies because of the huge reign of imported Indian movies and the many (unofficial) local remakes, the industry has finally built its own identity and shaped one of world’s most poetic cinematographies – as proved by two Golden Cyclos in 2012 and 2013 for August Drizzle by Aruna Jayawardanaand With Your Without You by Prasanna Vithanage.
Lester James Peries (97 years), the « Father of Sri Lanka Cinema », has not only contributed to the founding of local industry after popular success of his Rekava (Line of Destiny) in 1956, but he also proved there could be a more realistic and personal approach other than the ever-repeating musical formula movies made in Bollywood.
The success of his Gamperaliya (The Changing Village) in 1963 has paved the way for a whole new generation of young and talented directors such as Sumitra Peries, Siri Gunasinghe, Mahagama Sekera,...

You know that old adage, “Angel in the streets. Freak in the sheets.”
It certainly applied to Empire‘s Rhonda Lyon — Wharton grad, fashion exec and loving wife who purred like an about-to-be-satisfied cat whenever hubby Andre used to come home and share his deviant tales of sexual-financial-political conquest.

In the late-1990’s, the then-World Wrestling Federation started promoting what they called ‘Triple Threat’ matches. Bouts featuring 3 wrestlers going head-to-head were not a new thing. Promotions such as Ecw and even WCW had promoted ‘Three Way Dance’ efforts before. However, these matches were often elimination based. The ‘Triple Threat’ encounters were one fall affairs.
As the years have rolled on, these matches have become popular in WWE, and now exist regularly across the entire pro wrestling landscape. It’s not uncommon to see Triple Threat-style matches in promotions around the world on a regular basis, because they offer an exciting variant to the usual, standard one-on-one title bouts.
The idea of 3 people being able to win a championship at any moment, even without the reigning champion being involved in the decision, is very thrilling. There have been numerous amazing Triple Threat clashes over the years, but this list...

Ever since his “D*ck in a Box” digital short with Justin Timberlake on “Saturday Night Live,” Andy Samberg has been hailed as a musical comedy genius.
And now his trio The Lonely Island (also including Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone) is getting its very own movie deal with Universal Pictures.
Though there’s not an abundance of details just yet, the forthcoming flick will be “set in the music world,” and Judd Apatow will serve as producer.
The Lonely Island is also known for amazing ditties like “I Just Had Sex” featuring Akon and “Three Way” featuring Lady Gaga.

Joe Manganiello Met Bridget Peters At A Boxing Match
Manganiello, 37, met Peters in Las Vegas at a boxing match where Peters was working as a ring girl. About a year later, Manganiello and Peters are still going strong. In October, Manganiello took Peters along for his family vacation in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The duo hiked and snorkeled with Manganiello’s brother and sister-in-law. Lady Gaga knows how to make fun of herself.
If there was one takeaway from last night’s show, it was that Lady Gaga knows what you all are saying about her. And in the constant jostling for pop-culture supremacy, one of Gaga’s advantages has been that, when she allows it, she often comes across as a down-to-earth goofball. And happily, last night viewers mostly got the silly theater kid and not the art-house provocateur, which led to an overall enjoyable 90 minutes that, while not always laugh-out-loud hilarious, was consistently amusing.

I filed my final Oscar predictions on Friday and I'm just horrified looking at them now, certain I'll be wrong. Surveying the landscape of my predictions in chart format (I changed the photo above each category to those final predictions) I realized I was predicting a night that has very little in the way of dominance with 4 Oscars to Life of Pi and 3 each for Lincoln, Les Miz, and Argo. The problem with this prediction is that it doesn't account for the year long Bond Mania (which did end up breaking through AMPAS's historic disinterest in the franchise; they gave Skyfall 5 nominations more than doubling the franchise's previous 49 year tally of nominations) and it doesn't account for the Weinstein factor. Only one Oscar for Silver Linings Playbook feels improbable and foolish as predictions go, given how hard they pushed this last month. And yet the one Oscar I did predict...
