"Mama General" is a German tv-movie depicting a family with nine grown-ip children and how they find a way to make a living under sometimes harsh circumstances. It follows the family over the course of time and shows how some of the members develop new views on life.
It's a very interesting film because it allows you a view inside a family, that is extra-ordinary in one way, but very much like all the others in some other ways and thus shows that every family has its own set of challenges and dramas. It is a bit confusing that there is no plausible beginning and ending, it feeld more like somebody just randomly set the frame, but apart from that you get a good impression of how this family functions and why the different characters manage to get along.
All in all this is a nice documentary without a really big story but with a very good sense for finding the special in everyday's life and transporting it through film.
