A decent premise of a horror film which fails to entertain.

Warning: Spoilers
I think that Point of Contact is movie that is incomplete with missing scenes that would explain the main character, Jake's psychic abilities. His girlfriend ,who is the nurse in the movie, appears and disappears from the movie. Who knows what happened to her? The writer of the psychic book helps Jake with his visions of the dead but hides the truth about why she wants to go into this haunted house. It appears that the filmmakers wanted to create a scary and creepy film about the supernatural abilities of an individual. They failed to follow through with a decent ending. Everyone will ask why does Jake have these visions of the dead?

Awful Senseless Mess
claudio_carvalho26 August 2012
I have just watched "Ghost Hunters: Point of Contact" and the story is an awful senseless mess. The beginning is so confused that is impossible to be understood or described. Then, the "messenger of the dead" Jake has been in coma for twelve years in a hospital in Los Angeles without any atrophy of his muscles, but out of the blue he awakes seeing the dead and moves to the house of the nurse Elaine.

One year and three months later, his beard and Elaine vanish from the story and now he has apparently teamed up with a group of ghost hunters and he meets the psychic Andrea Riley. They go to an abandoned house, where a man killed his wife and two children many years ago, and the flick ends without conclusion or explanation.

I believe that the (very low) budget has finished before the completion of this film and the producers decided to release it anyway without continuity. I know that "advice when most needed is least heeded", but my advice is to avoid this terrible film. My vote is one (awful).

In the bottom two or three worst movies I've seen.

Warning: Spoilers
Awful, just awful. I realize that this was originally shot as a one-hour series, but they apparently didn't have enough material between what episodes they shot to put together a movie of any worth.

To begin with, it's boring...terribly boring. Nothing happens. Even the murder scenes (wherein the "bodies" often blink while the camera moves over them) are boring. Short scenes between the male and female lead seem to go on forever.

Next, a large portion of the film is "filler". The opening and credit montage is several minutes long and it just depicts a series of "visions" or "manifestations" in jump-shots. You have no idea what you're watching, because there's been no story or plot yet, and eventually the shots begin to cycle...guy with a green light shining up over his face, bloody murder victim on the rug, people standing in a dark room, and then back again to the guy with the green light in his face. It's obvious that they director had to fill in 15 minutes or so throughout the film to make it even as long as it was.

Finally, the story (what little there is) stinks. The characters make pronouncements that are unwarranted, perform contradictorily to what their stated beliefs are, and just basically talk about anything and everything without coming to any conclusion.

Now, I like a lot of bad movies. At least bad movies often keep your interest. This movie, however, is snore-inducing.

Avoid it at all costs.

Total Mess
Zhuge20 October 2022
Point of Contact is a 2006 horror film starring Buddy Dolan (who is also the writer and producer), Mikki Padilla, and James Kyson Lee(best known for Ando in the Heroes television series). Jake McCormick (Dolan) experiences an accident in his youth resulting in him being in a coma for 12 years. Despite being clinically dead for 9 hours, Jake survives somehow and amazingly loses no muscle mass during his coma. Upon waking up from the coma unexpectedly, Jake finds he has an odd ability to "sense" people, including spirits. A year later, Jake has began a relationship with a nurse that cared for him during his coma, and still struggles with interactions with the spirit world. Ultimately, Jake begins working with a team to help those spirits.

To be blunt -- this movie is an absolute mess. According to IMDb, it was originally shot as a 60 minute pilot for a TV series, and then an additional half hour was added to make it into a feature film. As a television series, it would have been horrible. As a 90 minute film, it's somehow worse. The film opens when Jake is a youth; then there's a time jump of 12 years; then another jump of 3 months; and finally a time jump to "present day" with no indication of when that really is. The actor portraying Jake (Buddy Dolan) wears a ridiculous wig throughout the first 30-40 minutes of the movie, which is really distracting. "Present day" Jake has gone from long, thick hair (that didn't thin out or change during his time in the coma or afterwards) to a heavily thinned and receded hairline, making him almost unrecognizable as the same actor.

In addition, the movie has tons of "filler" scenes of spirits swirling around the live actors and/or flashbacks in which Jake "senses" the spirits. Unfortunately, these scenes make little sense and are never really clarified later on. There's also a nearly 2 minute scene of Jake walking through a hotel in slow motion to rock music while looking to meet a psychic book author (after being encouraged to meet her by a spirit). Sadly, the scenes with actual dialog aren't much better in terms of cohesiveness. Jake's relationship is seemingly over (with no explanation) in "present day." The scene between Jake and the author is awkward and nonsensical. And there's ultimately no ending -- the movie simply stops, which seems oddly appropriate as there was no resolution needed, given that there wasn't anything resembling a coherent storyline.

It feels as if they had enough story for about 30 minutes of film and stretched that originally to 50-60 minutes for a TV pilot, and then again to 90 minutes to make a feature film. The movie ends up being something of an incomplete puzzle -- many of the pieces are there for a story and the viewer has to try to assemble them into something sensible; but overall a few key pieces in the center are clearly missing, making for an incomprehensible image.

Good supernatural concept
PINChicago15 January 2007
Warning: Spoilers
In watching this movie it's clear the director knows what he is talking about. I watched this movie three times and each time got something a little different. I love supernatural movies, I'm a fan of the subject. Real paranormal films are hard to come by without seeing the entity or having a spirit "come to life" before your eyes and joke about God. Movies like Constatine and The Covenant were OK, but hokey because if you're a true fan of supernatural movies, or a medium or ghost hunter your self - it just doesn't happen that way. (but thats Hollywood!)

If you're expecting huge action sequences, cheesy demon costumes and girls possessed crawling on the ceiling- - this isn't your movie (and you may call it the worst). But if you want to find out what it would be like to be able to see the dead, constantly - have spirits invade your dreams nightly for reasons you can't explain - this is your movie.

I was impressed by the detail of the dialogue, "out of body experiences" - the "dead not realizing they were dead" - the lead character Jake telling the spirits he will "tell their story" - "they are lost and confused"..... as a medium this is the real deal

Finally there are two sequences that will hit you incredibly close to home if you're a follower and were creepy to watch - they use a pendulum to contact the dead, and get results (don't try that one at home)! and a "seance" where we find out what really happened to "Jake" and how he became the "point of contact". Its scary and tells a story.

The irony of the whole story is Jake is just as lost and confused as the spirits he's trying to help, with little or no resolution in the future for him, he's forced to figure out what's happening to him. You've got to think about it - otherwise you just won't get it.

Lacking .... but I really could not stop watching
rexxtime13 April 2008
Warning: Spoilers
There was quite a lot of filler in this story. Watching the main actor constantly looking in a dream sequence type of scene was annoying. I was also very disappointed in the ending as well ... I expected more ... at least closure.

But given these things, I actually enjoyed the movie. Since I did not pay for this movie (watched it on AmericanFree TV), it was well worth the price. I really wanted to see a dramatic end, but the movie ended on the edge of what could have been the best scene of the movie ... but did not.

In conclusion, I would rather see a condenced version without the "dream sequence" look ... and a better ending. If you like thrillers, and you can look past these flaws ... I recommend it.
