Paranormal activity - Ghost Baby
Sleepin_Dragon12 February 2018
Young couple Louise and Ray have moved to a new house for a fresh start, hoping to move on from the tragic death of their unborn baby Toby. Louise quickly falls pregnant, trouble is she and Ray had not been intimate since the tragedy.

I felt like they really had something with the story here, a chilling premise, a really strong cast, but it falls a little flat, it could and should have been more sinister, less deliberate somehow, the delivery is a little clumsy.

I'm always delighted to see Martin Clunes's name appear, but he's not really given a great deal to do, Serena Gordon is actually very good. Rosemary Leach's odd cat lady neighbour plays to every stereotype under the sun.

Watchable, but not as good as Prophecy.

Warning: Spoilers
I agree with the only other reviewer for this episode who came here before I did. Even though the story has a very creepy vibe to it, there seems to be something lacking as if the writers didn't know what they wanted to do or where they wanted to go. Seeking a fresh start after Louise Knight (Serena Gordon) loses her baby named Toby in an auto accident, she and her husband move into a new home and almost immediately she becomes aware of paranormal occurrences. The infant's crib swings by itself and a baby's crying is heard throughout the house. Louise's guilt complex leads her to imagining a phantom baby growing in her stomach, but that turns out to me a massive blood sac when she goes into labor. But then, she gets pregnant for real, and simulates breastfeeding an imaginary baby, all to her husband's chagrin. I'm unclear as to why the writers took this approach by way of the fake pregnancy, because all it did was pad out the story to it's one hour screen time. As if searching for a way to conclude the story, Louise once again gets in her car, and has a fatal accident involving a Toby Tyler delivery truck. Her bereft husband Ray (Martin Clunes), who had all he could handle with Louise's prior imaginings, is left to ponder a toy train running by itself and the swinging cradle in what would have been the new baby's bedroom. It all felt to me like a story that needed a thorough reworking to make it a real Chiller.
