Pure Cinematic Genius
prohibited-name-20881 February 2005
Simply put, "Y tu Toaster Tambien" is the best epic the screen has ever seen. In terms of sheer sweep, intelligence, and star power, nothing much comes close. This film is a potent metaphor for the betrayal of principles, the souring of the American Dream, and an intelligent mediation on the corrupting nature of power, the film's reputation is nothing short of gargantuan. The attention to detail and technical brilliance (deep focus photography and hitherto unchartered camera angles) combined to influence the future of cinema. The film also relies heavily on spectacle and on the sheer charisma of its star. Every swirling camera movement, every distinctive angle, has a real reason for existing in this story of a man and his toaster. For all its technical virtuosity, Y tu Toaster Tambien connects on primal themes. The script is rooted in the contrary pulls of lust and redemption. It was directed by a legend at the peak of his prowess and performed by a cast that has arguably never been better, not a one of them. Y tu Toaster Tambien represents so many things: the magic that occurs when a brilliant but troubled actor finds a director able to harness and refine his talents ; the passion of a personal project expressed with intelligence and passion; and the death knell for the affected progressions and performances favoured by the Hollywood studio system to that point. All in all, there are flaws too minor to grate, especially in considering the transcendence of the picture as a whole. This is cinema in its most perfect form, a true masterpiece. But Bum Fight Club is way better.

If the messiah had had a camera, he would have made this

Y Tu Toaster Tambien, is succinctly, the best film about toasters and manchild love ever made. Strauss, a first time director, is a virtuoso, pulling together the various threads of his sprawling tale with the expertise of a confident industry regular. One can only hope that he will build upon the potential he presents here, and make something even more grand the next time around. May you each note that, as a piece of toaster trivia, the title of this film was made similar to Y tu mama tambien so that you, the unknowing IMDb reader, would stumble upon it. Seek this little flick out: it will make you laugh, it will make you cry, and it will make you reread the copyright infringement law book, something each of us should do. Thank you all. May the toaster rest in peace.

This Movie was perfection

Y tu Toaster Tambien is a legendary satirical comedy that makes distinct social commentaries on our current state of affairs; especially in our view of "love". While on the surface, this movie may be about a man, and his toaster, the underlying message and themes are far more complex, and give much insight about the human condition in our times. This movie is truly a work of art, comparable to others such as Schindler's List, but still manages to be funny at every turn. No matter who you are, or where you're from, this movie will speak volumes to you; in every sense, Y tu Toaster Tambien crosses cultures and makes a message about life and love that all can understand. The men who made this film are geniuses in their own right.

perfect !

Simply fantastic! A masterpiece, I love the development of the love story between Rosebud and Connor. And the twist at the end is to die for!!!! Strauss is cinematic genius, protégé, he is perfection with a camera. Y tu toaster tambien is a movie of the ages! Jon Strauss' direction, and cinematography make it all come full circle. The opening pool scene is a shocker. The whole film is like memento crossed with Hugh grant. However, Connor Mcguire is far above Grant. Every scene, he's in, he lights up the screen. I love the shot of him confronting his enemy at the door of his house...spectacular! Over, this film is 18 minutes of pure heart stopping thrills and romance. I love it!

Oh...my...God...

This movie is priceless. It's the story of a man whose love for his toaster is doomed to fail when he finds that she has been stolen. The movie oozes desperation and the deepest emotions at every twist and turn, Yet, it throws hilarious bits in fast and hard. You'll end up crapping yourself with laughter and admiring the beautiful sadness of a man whose life has gone to pieces at the same time. Even at his young age, Strauss has proved himself to be a genius with his camera. I haven't seen this kind of artistic style ever in any kind of movie. If Beethoven had a camera, this is probably what he would be doing with it. Actor Conor McGuire really amazes in this film. He can express any emotion at the drop of a hat. All of the acting was brilliant, from the depressed butler played by R.J. Rieker, to the maniacal man mastered by Brian Smith, to the shocked psychiatrist played by the director himself. Go see this movie; It changed my life, and it will change yours too.
